The discourse around Jayson Tatum continues to grow despite the teams success with him on the team.

Historically, Jayson Tatum has been superstar and driving engine for the Boston Celtics .

Hes been everything the team has needed in terms of a first option of a contending squad in recent years.

However, despite helping the club capture a title in 2024, there is a negative notion and narrative growing around Tatum and his services to the team among former NBA players, primarily led by Brandon Jennings.

Its been common among fans, too, to claim Tatum isnt a clear-cut top option, though.

Is [Jayson Tatum] the softest Boston Celtics superstar ever? Jennings asked on a previous podcast appearance .

While many are keen on discussing whether Tatum is a soft superstar, giving him backlash for whatever reason, hes keeping his focus on the hardwood as the Celtics look to repeat as champions.

Brandon Jennings gives a response on whether hes changed his mind about Tatum In the month of January, Tatum is averaging 25.2 points per game, which is a slight dip from what the rest of his season has looked like.

With the Celtics having taken four losses in their last eight games, there is a bit of slippage overall.

After Tatums teammate, Jaylen Brown, won ECF MVP and NBA Finals MVP during Bostons playoff run last season, Brandon Jennings has been adamant about the Duke product being a soft superstar.

I definitely stand by it, Jennings said.

Like I said before, May and June is coming.

And I think the overall picture of everything Im saying is just that Jaylen Brown has the Finals MVP and the MVP of the playoffs, so, thats where the context came from.

Im going to just wait until May and June.

Tatum will have a chance to prove Jennings wrong in the upcoming stretch with the regular season hitting the back half of the schedule and the playoffs on the horizon.

What Tatum said about the criticism Jennings doubled down on his take.

Many are questioning the Celtics and their capabilities right now as theyre dealing with some slippage in recent games .

Still, there is reason to believe Tatum and Boston will be ramped up by the end of the season.

Evidently, Tatum isnt rattled by the discourse and criticism.

Again, to him, the only focus is on the hardwood.

The hate and negative narratives are a sign that hes doing something right.

Surprised? No.

I think it comes with being one of the best players in the league, Tatum said of the criticism .

And the more you accomplish, the more it gives people an opportunity to nitpick at things.

If I wasnt who I was or had a certain status, people would probably not talk about me as much.

But Im not the first superstar in league history to deal with this.

It comes with it.

Tatum understands the weight of being the first option on a championship-contending team.

Hes remaining even-keeled with his focus being on Bostons 19th championship and how he can help the club achieve such.
