The Boston Red Sox lost two players to qualifying offers this offseason, with the Sox declining the qualifying offer for Tyler ONeill, and Nick Pivetta declining his qualifying offer to test free agency.

However, MLB insider Jon Morosi says people in the MLB believe Pivettas best option is returning to Boston.

"There are those in the industry who believe the best fit for [Nick Pivetta] right now is going back to Boston, because of course they would not have to give up a pick to sign back their own player.

If the Red Sox were to lose Pivetta to any other team, they would receive a draft pick from them, which is why its taking so long for him to sign.

If the Sox dont make any more moves, they could make this easy choice to bolster their rotation and bullpen.

For the Sox, Pivetta had a 4.29 ERA, 718 Ks, a 1.243 WHIP, and a 10.2 K/9.

Over the last two seasons, hes had an 11.1 K/9.

Getting Pivetta back might be the smart move with the less than impressive offseason the Sox have had.

Pivetta can be filthy when hes in the flow, and with some more work and/or coming out of the bullpen as the long reliever, he could be a menace for the Sox.
