Covetta sets Falcons single-game scoring mark again

Anthony Covettas Jefferson Area High School single-game boys basketball scoring record didnt last long.
The Jefferson senior, who scored 46 points in an 82-56 Falcons win over Edgewood Jan.
17, was at it again Friday.
Covetta tallied 48 points as Jefferson downed Lakeside 91-81 for a Chagrin Valley Conference Lake Division win.
I just want to thank my teammates and coaches as this isnt possible without them, he said.
The feeling was great, its just a testament to the work that the team and I put in.
Unlike the Warriors game, in which he didnt score in the first quarter, Covetta was hot from the get-go against the Dragons with 19 points in the opening eight minutes.
We got off to a better start against Lakeside, as we were all hitting shots and playing well, he said.
Covetta is averaging 29 points and 9.1 rebounds per game.
Hes also hitting five 3-pointers per contest.
Im just happy for Anthony, Falcons coach Rob Pisano said.
We didnt even know he was at 48 until after the game was over.
To do this in back-to-back games is remarkable.
Hes just had a stretch of games he just hasnt missed a shot.
Last season, Covetta earned Division II All-Ohio honors, so he was intent on stepping up his game even more in the 2024-25 campaign.
One of the biggest things I did to improve for my senior year is just really work on my game every day and stay really consistent, he said.
We were going to Cleveland as a team every weekend, really getting after it against new competition, which led to growth as well.
The most important aspect for Covetta was getting victories in both games.
Its sweet feeling to break the record, but is even better to get a win with my guys, he said.
This team is special.
Jefferson is 12-2 overall, 6-1 in the Chagrin Valley Conference Lake Division, with a seven-game winning streak.
They are battling Geneva and Madison to remain atop the conference standings.
Covetta still has his sights set on team and personal goals for the rest of the season, but is also weighing options for the future.
I have been blessed with some opportunities to play in college, he said.
I feel I am a steal for any high-level program and feel I can contribute at any level.
I do planning on making a decision at some point towards the end of the year..
