4 Pirates Land in MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 Prospects

MLB Pipeline released its preseason top 100 prospects list and there are four Pittsburgh Pirates on the list.

15.

RHP Bubba Chandler The consensus Pirates top prospect, Chandler checks in as No.

15 on Pipelines top 100 list and is the fourth-best right-handed pitching prospect.

Hes behind top overall prospect Roki Sasaki (Dodgers), Jackson Jobe (Tigers) and Andrew Painter (Phillies).

Chandler spent most of last season in Double-A Altoona, where he went 6-7 with a 3.70 ERA in 19 appearances/16 starts.

After a promotion to Triple-A Indianapolis, the 22-year-old went 4-0 with a stellar 1.83 ERA and struck out 54 batters in 39.1 innings with the Pirates top affiliate.

Chandlers best pitch is his power-fastball which sits in the mid-to-upper 90s.

He also has a sharp slider, a curveball and changeup.

Hes expected to make his big-league debut at some point in 2025.

INF/OF Konnor Griffin One of the newest players in the system, the Pirates took Griffin with the ninth pick out of high school in Mississippi in the 2024 draft.

Griffin has not yet made his professional debut but is a toolsy player with plenty of upside.

Defensively, the 18-year-old is capable of playing two key positions in center field and shortstop.

He possesses a good glove, a strong arm and excellent speed.

At the plate , Griffin has pure raw power and has the potential to be a five-tool player if he can make consistent contact.

It will be several years before Griffin reaches Pittsburgh.

RHP Thomas Harrington Harrington gives the Pirates a second top 100 pitching prospect in Triple-A Indianapolis.

As with Chandler, he could make his MLB debut this season.

The Pirates drafted Harrington with the 36th pick in 2022.

He has some of the best command of any pitching prospect in baseball and has three above-average offerings in his fastball, slider and splitter.

Harrington split time between three levels in 2024 and went 7-3 with a 2.61 ERA in 22 appearances/21 starts.

The 23-year-old struck out 115 batters and walked only 19 across 117.1 innings pitched.

2B Termarr Johnson Johnson was the Pirates first-round pick (fourth overall) in 2022.

At the time, he was considered one of the best pure prep hitters in decades.

The 20-year-old has ascended fairly quickly through the Pirates minor-league system and reached Double-A towards the end of last season.

He spent most of the year with High-A Greensboro, where he slashed .238/.372/.385 with 17 doubles, 13 home runs, 46 RBIs and 20 steals in 110 games.

Johnsons best attribute is his ability to get on base.

He has solid tools across the board with plus-power.

Defensively, hes likely limited to second base, where he projects to be at least an adequate defender.
