NFL season opener hit by weather delay with thunderstorms forcing Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens off field

THE Kansas City Chiefs-Baltimore Ravens game is at risk of a delay after lightning strikes have been reported in the area.
Pregame warmups have already been postponed as the weather worsens at Arrowhead stadium.
Rain is coming down in buckets in Kansas City and fans are taking cover inside as high winds and lightning pelt the stadium.
The Chiefs and Ravens were pulled off the field during warmups as Thursday Night Football sits at a standstill due to the weather.
A message was broadcasted on the Chiefs' jumbotron to warn fans of the weather interruption.
"Please be advised that due to pending weather conditions, all event/game activities will be interrupted," the message read.

"GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium apologizes for the inconveniences and will inform you when it is safe to return to your seat." The storm is expected to pass over by the time kickoff comes, but the start time could still be delayed to allow for warmups.
The Chiefs have yet to release a statement regarding the start time of the game.
