Eagle boys win OT battle vs. La Salle

HOOD RIVER The Hood River Valley (HRV) boys basketball team (6-5 overall, 1-2 Northwest Oregon Conference) earned their first conference win in overtime against La Salle College Preparatory School on Friday, Jan.

The Eagles and head coach Chris Dirks pulled out a slim 70-66 win over the visiting Falcons.

Dirks recorded his 90th win as head coach.

Friday's win was much needed for the Eagles, who had lost their two previous games against the Wilsonville Wildcats (10-2 overall, 3-0) on Monday and the Hillsboro Spartans (6-6 overall, 2-1) on Wednesday.

The Spartans win over Hood River was their first league win since 2022.

The Eagles scored 27 points in the first quarter but couldnt find success after Hillsboro made adjustments and began to defend full court.

The Spartans converted on their free throws down the stretch and won 67-61.

On Friday, the Eagles came out swinging and senior forward Davis Kerr scored a corner 3-pointer to open the scoring.

In the win, Kerr scored eight points, three rebounds and one block in 32 minutes.

Senior guard Zak Poole was a catalyst for the Eagles, scoring 28 points in 38 minutes.

The Eagles were able to capitalize on La Salle mistakes with 21 points off turnovers.

The Eagles were nearly perfect in overtime as they made both field goals layups from Poole and senior Matthew Fauth and went 9-for-10 from the free throw line.

They scored 13 points and escaped with a crucial conference win.

They were scheduled to play at Canby High on Jan.
