Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has responded after being approached by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones over the coaching vacancy .

"To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and its intriguing," Sanders told ESPN on Monday night.

"I love Jerry and believe in Jerry.

After you hang up, and process it, and think about it, its intriguing.

"But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community." Sanders is a top candidate for the role, and although discussions are in the early stages, Jones is keen to schedule a formal interview with the Colorado head coach.

Jones made an unexpected announcement on Monday after informing fans that the Cowboys had parted ways with head coach Mike McCarthy.

It came as a surprise as the Cowboys didn't instantly fire him after the regular season ended and rejected an approach from the Chicago Bears, who wished to speak with him.

Football moves quickly, but it appears that both Jones and Sanders have changed their minds.

Sanders has already dismissed interest from NFL teams, and Jones even said himself that the Buffaloes coach is better suited to college football.
