Former Red Sox catcher Kevin Plawecki announces retirement

By Trevor Hass Catcher Kevin Plawecki, who spent three seasons with the Red Sox from 2020-2022, announced his retirement Saturday via Instagram.

Plawecki, 33, had a nine-year Major League career with the Mets, Indians, Red Sox, and Rangers.

He was a .235 hitter who was known for his acumen behind the plate.

Happy retirement to Kevin Plawecki.

He was known as a positive presence in the locker room.

There comes a time where all good things must come to an end, Plawecki wrote.

As a player, its time for me to move on.

Ive been blessed to play this game my whole life including the last 13 years professionally.

I cannot thank every team enough for the opportunities to wear their uniforms.

I did not take it for granted.

Kevin Plawecki is calling it a career.

He thanked his family and more and shared that hes accepted a job with the Padres as a coach in minor league player development.
