Things we missed: Happy new year, no sleep 'til after state tourneys

I can hear Ricky Bobby now.
Except it's the remainder of the winter sports season and the school year for that matter.
"I wanna go fast!" Yes, I know it's five months until summer.
It's about nine weeks until the boys state basketball tournament the effective end of my winter calendar.
In almost exactly one month, it's my 29th birthday er, I mean, state wrestling duals in Kearney.
Then it's districts, then it's FIVE days of state wrestling.
Remember, we have two days of girls wrestling, then three of boys.
It's an avalanche of competitions, always is.
I'm here for it, just need to get back to form.
The transition from fall sports to winter sometimes blurs together.
I feel like I haven't watched that much basketball yet this season.
I am eager to check out some bowling, wrestling and swimming, too.
I don't know the landscape quite yet.
I'll get more of an idea of who's who later this week when we run the first of six straight weeks of Tribland stat leaders for both basketball and wrestling.
If you're a coach reading this, update your stats on MaxPreps and TrackWrestling, or email them to either myself or [email protected] .
If there's something you feel I absolutely need to check on or write about, you can email me, too.
Hope you all had happy holidays.
Let's get back to work with Things We Missed.
I know I missed several things because I was in Phoenix for the new year.
The Fiesta Bowl was a blast, Boise State fans dominated that atmosphere.
Unfortunately mistakes and lack of execution prevented the Broncos from advancing in the College Football Playoff.
I thought, compared to some other teams we saw in the CFP, Boise at least belonged there.
Still a fun ride.
Top of the list First, a hearty congrats to Wilcox-Hildreth senior Madison Bunger for breaking the program's scoring record.
Bunger, a first-team All-Tribland selection last season, needed 16 points on Saturday to tie the mark.
She finished with 19 in a 43-20 win over Doniphan-Trumbull.
Her career total sits at 1,064.
This season Bunger is averaging 12.5 points and 8.7 rebounds.
The Falcons are 7-3.
Denkert makes dent Adam Denkert made his mark on Kenesaw's 65-52 win over Axtell on Friday.
The junior not only tied teammate Jravin Suck with a team-high 15 points, but added nine rebounds, five assists, five steals and two blocks.
Four Blue Devils finished in double figure scoring.
None topped Axtell's Jacob Halvorsen, who had 20 in the losing effort.
Biskup ties career-high Alma junior Tucker Biskup tied his career-high with 27 points Saturday in a 60-37 win over Superior.
He was 11 of 18 from the field.
Teammate Zavier Mitchell netted 20 points for the 8-1 Cardinals.
Goodon having good one Shoutout to Hastings College sophomore Rachel Goodon for notching a third consecutive double-double.
The Adams Central grad finished with 10 points and 14 rebounds in Saturday's 69-48 loss to Briar Cliff.
She's averaging 14 points and 13 rebounds during the streak.
Consecutive career-highs If you read further down in this column, I mention how Hastings College men's basketball seems to be playing better basketball lately than its 1-13 record suggests.
Ben Boudreau is one reason.
The sophomore guard has recorded back-to-back career-highs in scoring, producing 24 last Thursday and 25 on Saturday.
Broncos need more Boudreaus.
Fillmore Central invite Adams Centrals girls bested 23 other teams to win Friday's Fillmore Central invite with 166 points.
The Patriots were joined in the top five by Wood River, which was fifth with 127 12 points.
Khloe Wiseman (110) and Kayden Sipp (140) won individual titles for the Patriots, with each win by pin, while Jennifer Lopez (190) and Zeniah Baca (155) were runners-up.
Ashlin George (115) and Nevaeha Sorensen (170) placed third and Elizabeth Larsen (235) fourth.
Other area girls winners were Wood River's Alyssa Thomas (130) and Superior's Cheyenne Stacy (120).
Doniphan-Trumbull was the boys team runner-up behind Seward with 174 12 points.
Sandy Creek was fourth with 102 12 points and Fillmore Central fifth at 99 12.
D-T's Dakota Gibson won the 138-pound title; three of his four wins on the day were pins.
Tycen Breckner won at 285 pounds, with all pins.
Sandy Creek's Connor Rempe (132) and Rowan Jarosik (165) each won their weight classes.
Superior's Kyler Boyles was the champion at 190 pounds.
St.
Cecilia's Talon Weidner was runner-up at 144 pounds.
What to watch this week -It's a big week for girls basketball.
Saturday's Nebraska Girls Basketball Showcase is the big ticket item, but there are other big games, too.
Unbeaten Minden has two of them.
The Class C-1 No.
2 Whippets host Class B No.
10 Beatrice on Tuesday, then face C-2 No.
2 Oakland-Craig in Kearney on Saturday.
In between, they have a road trip to Valentine on Friday.
-The crosstown rivalry/showdown (whichever nickname you prefer) is Thursday.
Adams Central hosts Hastings High for a boys and girls basketball doubleheader.
The Patriots boys, ranked ninth in C-1 (Omaha World-Herald), are in for a fight with a tested bunch of Tigers.
I wish these games were still at Hastings College's Lynn Farrell Arena.
-A good coach, as Hastings College's Todd Raridon is, will tell you their team has a chance in every game.
Whether its for four minutes or all 40 (32 for high school).
Wednesday looks like the Broncos' next best opportunity to erase the goose egg that sits in their win column during conference play so far this winter.
HC (0-8 in the GPAC) hosts Midland (2-7) at 8 p.m.
Raridon's team, which was the league champ last season with a much different roster, has been playing better ball as of late, despite what its 13-game losing streak says..
