Pittsburgh women makes history in epic comeback win over SMU

Buried in the hype of the NFL playoffs and men's college basketball coverage this weekend is one historic win on the women's hoops side.

Pittsburgh completed a 32-point comeback to beat SMU 72-59 on Sunday, tying the largest such rally in NCAA history and setting the mark for the largest in a game that ended in regulation.

The historic rebound included a 28-0 run that lasted the entire third quarter, extending to 31-0 in the early minutes of the fourth quarter.

Pittsburgh, incredibly, didn't take its first lead of the game until there was less than five minutes remaining in regulation.

It was a combination of suffocating defense (SMU was held to 7.4% shooting) and unstoppable offense that sent the home crowd into a frenzy late.

Three Panthers combined for 57 points, including sophomore Mikayla Johnson who recorded a career-high 22 on the day.
