NFL insider pinpoints reason for high-profile coach interest

The Las Vegas Raiders cleaned house this week, firing head coach Antonio Pierce on Tuesday and general manager Tom Telesco on Thursday.
With the constant losing and instability occurring with the Raiders, the coaching vacancy was not expected to be an attractive one for prospective options.
Not having a franchise quarterback or a high-end roster was also expected to hurt them in their efforts.
However, that has not stopped the Raiders from shooting their shot with some of the top candidates on the market, including Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
Johnson conducted a virtual interview with the team on Friday, and they are expected to interview former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll next week.
According to NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the reason Johnson would take an interest in a job he was not expected to is simple: Raiders minority owner Tom Brady.
This had nothing to do with Telesco as a GM, said Russini .
This has everything to do with what Brady wants to bring to Las Vegas.
From what I gather, he really wants a head coach and a GM in tandem who know each other and speak the same language.
That line of reasoning would explain quite a bit on most fronts.
Johnson will have plenty of options from a strong Lions front office to choose from, it gives the Raiders a viable reason for their shock decisions and it confirms what the NFL knew about Bradys involvement going forward.
Brady seems to have been one of the louder voices wanting change within the organization.
The fact that principal owner Mark Davis acquiesced to Bradys request indicates just how much power the future Hall of Fame quarterback will have in the decision making for the Raiders this offseason.
Very few know what it takes to build a winning culture in football quite like Brady.
Bringing in Johnson to interview is just the first step in his attempt to emulate that success with the Raiders.
