There are just four teams left in the College Football Playoff's first-ever 12-team bracket.

The second round of the CFP concluded last week with the quarterfinals.

All four conference champions that enjoyed a bye through the first round were one-and-done, as the four programs left are No.

5 Texas , No.

6 Penn State , No.

7 Notre Dame and No.

8 Ohio State .

The Nittany Lions, Buckeyes and Fighting Irish all handled their opponents with relative ease, cruising to double-digit wins over their respective adversaries.

The Longhorns had a tougher time, needing double overtime to defeat Arizona State.

In years past, a national champion would have already been crowned through two rounds into the playoffs.

However, with the expansion to a 12-team format, that means the fun is only halfway over.

As the College Football Playoff rolls on, Sporting News has you covered with everything you need to know about the upcoming semifinals matchups.
