Tyler Herro Called Being Drafted By the Heat a ‘Blessing’ In 2019: 'I Was Set on Miami Months Prior'

The Miami Heat made one of their better decisions in recent years by selecting Tyler Herro in the draft.

In 2019, the Heat had the 13th pick and used it to draft Herro.

Since then, hes shown that Miami didnt make a mistake choosing him among some of the young, promising prospects that year.

Growing up, Herro said that the Heat was his favorite team, even before the arrival of LeBron James .

However, he became even more loyal to the franchise when the four-time champion joined the Heat.

I was a big fan of the Heat, Herro said.

Like, your guys team that you guys put together.

I was a LeBron fan.

A big, big, big LeBron fan, I was one of his biggest fans.

I was a Miami Heat fan...

Prior to [James arrival] and then when Bron came, it just stamped it because I was already LeBron fan.

I used to have an Antoine Walker jersey.

Months before he was drafted, Herro was already focused on getting picked by the Heat.

When I seen the numbers on the teams of where theyre drafting and I see Miami was 13, I was set on Miami months prior before even the draft.

It was just like a dream to go to Miami.

Fortunately for Herro, Miami was ahead in the draft and secured him that night.

On draft night, the Celtics had the 14th pick and they had already guaranteed me the pick for the most part.

And then Miami took me right before at 13.

It was a blessing.

Boston ended up drafting Romeo Langford, who played for three seasons for their franchise.

Tyler Herro could make his first All-Star team this season Tyler Herro is averaging 20 points for the fourth straight season of his career.

However, his stats in the 2024-25 NBA season are better than before.

Hes no longer the sixth man for the Miami franchise as hes started in all 35 games hes played, averaging 23.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.0 on 40.1 shooting from deep.

Herro finished ninth among backcourt players in the first round of fan returns for the 2025 NBA All-Star selection, receiving 125,251 votes.

Even if the fan vote determines the starting lineup, Herro still has a chance to be selected as his first All-Star.

The coaches have the option to select the 2022 Sixth Man of the Year from the reserves as an All-Star.
