NBA legend and Washington Commanders part-owner Magic Johnson has lauded his NFL team after qualifying for the playoffs for the first time since 2020.

The Commanders beat the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night, sealing a 30-24 victory with a walk-off touchdown in overtime.

Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels threw for over 200 yards and three touchdown passes, and he also had 127 rushing yards of his own, a game-high.

Now 11-5, Washington will play in the postseason, its first appearance in four years.

"Its official, my Washington Commanders are in the Playoffs," Johnson said on X.

"Congratulations to the @Commanders players, Head Coach Dan Quinn, GM Adam Peters for putting this team together, my fellow owners, and the incredible Commanders fan base!" The Commanders will learn who their playoff opponents are in the next few weeks.

Their first game is set between Jan.

11 and 13.

"I'm tired," Daniels said.

"But I'm happy." Washington Commanders star gets engaged on field after dramatic overtime win Jayden Daniels shows true colors with message to Michael Penix Jr.

after NFL thriller Daniels was drafted second overall in the 2024 NFL Draft and has changed the franchise's fortunes around.

According to tight end Zach Ertz, the quarterback is a wise head on young shoulders.

"It comes down to having a really good quarterback in this league," Ertz said.

"And from the moment I got here, seeing Jayden out there, I continually said this guy isn't someone that's going to be good; he's good now.

"And when you have that position situated in this league, you have a chance.

This organization is in a great spot for years to come." "He's the most mature rookie I've ever been around.

He exudes a quiet confidence," Ertz added.

"He's not a rah-rah guy.

We all know how good he is and how much confidence we have in him.

He doesn't need to say anything." "We just freaking win," said punter Tress Way of Daniels.

"I mean, we have 11 wins.

What? ...

It does help when you have No.

5 on your team.

That dude's pretty freaking good." In the game against the Falcons, Daniels had to take down a fellow rookie QB, Michael Penix Jr., who was taken eighth overall and sat on the bench most of 2024 behind Kirk Cousins.

Penix Jr.

threw for 223 yards and one touchdown in the game, including a dramatic fourth-quarter connection with tight end Kyle Pitts.

Man, keep going," Daniels said when asked what he told Penix Jr.

after the game.

"He's going to be a hell of a player.

I'm proud of him, everything he's been through in his life to get to this point.

It's nothing but God, and this is the arena.

I know he's a follower, he's a believer, so anything is possible..
