The Hurricanes brought in transfer centers to anchor their offensive line the last two years, and it worked out well, so they are doing it again.

Miami landed former Alabama and TCU center James Brockermeyer on Friday night.

He chose the Hurricanes over offers from Florida State and USC.

Brockermeyer, the son of former NFL offensive lineman Blake Brockermeyer, is the first offensive lineman UM has added in the transfer portal this offseason.

Brockermeyer, who is listed at 6 feet 3 and 295 pounds, started his college career at Alabama after being rated a four-star prospect in 247Sports composite rankings.

He played three seasons for the Crimson Tide but had limited playing time, playing only 38 snaps through his first three seasons.

Brockermeyer transferred to TCU before the 2024 season and started 12 games for the Horned Frogs.

He earned a 68 offensive grade from Pro Football Focus with an 80.2 pass-blocking grade and a 64.1 run-blocking grade.

Brockermeyer allowed only one sack and five quarterback hurries in 477 pass-blocking opportunities.

Brockermeyers pass-blocking grade was 35th out of 135 centers in the nation who played at least 500 snaps and was sixth-best in the Big 12.

He was an All-Big 12 honorable mention.

The Hurricanes have had success bringing in transfer centers the last two years.

In 2023, Miami added UCF transfer Matt Lee, who had an excellent season and is now with the Cincinnati Bengals.

UM added Zach Carpenter before the 2024 season, and Carpenter turned in a solid year and is poised to enter the NFL draft.

Miami is returning three other starters on the offensive line: left guard Matthew McCoy, right guard Anez Cooper and right tackle Francis Mauigoa..
