The Toronto Maple Leafs continued their blue line transformation under general manager Brad Treliving, signing Philippe Myers to a two-year contract extension beginning next season.

The extension carries an AAV of $850,000.

Myers was originally signed to a one-year contract with an AAV of $775,000 on July 2, 2024.

His signing flew under the radar.

Myers spent the majority of his professional career bouncing between the NHL and the AHL.

His summer signing was announced by the Maple Leafs along with the signings of two other players Cedric Pare and Dakota Mermis neither of whom have stayed with the Leafs.

Its been a frustrating past couple of years for me, Myers said in October.

But I never stopped believing.

Few could have pegged him to make the opening-night roster, but he has played 11 games and averaged 17:07 in ice time.

Myers consistent physicality, simple but effective plays with the puck and booming shot not only saw him crack that roster in October but also stay in the NHL.

His 6-foot-5 frame makes him another addition to a blue line that looks drastically different under Treliving compared to past Leafs back ends.

As of late, Myers has been paired with Morgan Rielly .

The pair have logged 128:18 of 5-on-5 time together over 11 games, which is the fourth-highest total for any Leafs defence pairing this season.

And Myers extension is undoubtedly predicated on the fact that he has played well alongside Rielly in the process.

Per Natural Stat Trick, the pair own 60 percent of the 5-on-5 expected goals when they are on the ice together.
