Report: Chris Jones has Grade 1 MRI strain

Good news, Chiefs fans.

The calf injury suffered on Saturday by defensive tackle Chris Jones isnt serious.

Via Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, an MRI revealed that Jones has a Grade 1 calf strain.

His availability for Wednesdays game in Pittsburgh remains to be determined.

Glazer pointed out that, if the game were to be played on Sunday, Jones would be far more likely to be available.

And thats one of the problems inherent to playing a game with only three days off in between them.

Players who would have been ready to go with a full week of rest wont be ready when the next game starts fewer than four days after the last one ended.

The league consistently defends short-week football by pointing out that the injury rate is the same when played with a full week and when played on a four-day turnaround.

Thats misleading, borderline disingenuous.

Beyond the cumulative wear and tear arising from reduced rest, some injured players cant get ready to go on Thursday (or, in this case, Wednesday) after playing on Sunday (or, in this case, Saturday)..
