For a piece published on Friday, ESPN's Jordan Raanan noted that personnel within the New York Giants such as general manager Joe Schoen, assistant GM Brandon Brown, director of player personnel Tim McDonnell and special assistant to the GM Jesse Armstead "have heavily scouted" Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward and "spent an inordinate amount of time in Boulder" watching Colorado Buffaloes star signal-caller Shedeur Sanders amid the club's search for a long-term QB1.
Giants defensive back/linebacker Isaiah Simmons recently indicated he has a favorite among the two options when he compared Sanders to Washington Commanders starter Jayden Daniels.
"You can tell he's got everything he needs to be a pro," Simmons said about Sanders.
" Personally, I think he's a guy that can come here and really transform things.
Or anywhere he goes he's a very, very valuable piece.
Kind of like a Jayden Daniels effect.
I can see something like that happening with Shedeur as well." As of Friday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook listed Daniels as the betting favorite at -2000 odds to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award for 2024.
According to ESPN stats, he heads into the weekend ranked fifth in the NFL among qualified players with a 67.9 adjusted QBR on the campaign.
Per the StatMuse website, he's eighth in the league with 3,701 passing and rushing yards combined.
He's also tied for 10th with 23 passing and rushing scores combined.
Of course, the problem with Raanan or anybody else trying to predict the Giants' offseason plans is that it remains unclear who will make such decisions for the franchise.
It seems to be a guarantee that fans will attempt to embarrass Giants co-owner John Mara into making organizational changes over the season's final two weeks.
Some think Mara could part ways with at least head coach Brian Daboll as soon as Monday if Big Blue is blown out at the 7-7 Atlanta Falcons this Sunday.
Perhaps a new Giants regime wouldn't be all that fond of either Ward or Sanders.
Instead, it would look to acquire a proven commodity in free agency, such as Kirk Cousins, Sam Darnold, Justin Fields or even Aaron Rodgers, and then trade down in the draft order.
As mock drafts shared by CBS Sports and other outlets show, there is currently no consensus No.
1 pick regarding the 2025 draft class.
Whoever runs the Giants' football operations will undoubtedly address the club's quarterback situation between the start of the new league year in March and the final day of the 2025 draft.
Nobody should assume before Christmas that New York will select either Ward or Sanders if the club holds the first pick of the player-selection process when Week 18 ends..
