High school basketball: South girls get back on track in Moir, boys fall again

Staff report SALISBURY The Dales Sporting Goods Sam Moir Christmas Classic was good for South Rowans girls basketball team.
The Raiders entered the event running on fumes after five straight losses, three of them blowouts and two that hurt even worse than blowouts because they slipped through their fingers.
But the Raiders (4-7) got back on track in the tournament, with a close loss to a solid Central Davidson team on Thursday and a 40-point win on Friday when fifth-seeded South romped 62-22 at Catawba College against eighth-seeded West Rowan.
Kynlee Dextraze tied her career high with 24 points against the Falcons (0-9).
She dominated inside and she also got some transition points, South coach Alex Allen said.
Meghan Eagle, who doesnt take a lot of shots, had a career game with 10 points.
South got Day Pharr back from an injury for the tournament and she also contributed 10 points.
Ella Morgan, who had two good games in the tournament, made two 3-pointers.
South led by 10 after a competitive first half, but pulled away with a 22-5 edge in the third quarter and held West to one point in the fourth.
West had lost 55-51 at South earlier in the season, but couldnt stay with the Raiders this time.
Sydney Smith (10) and Jamelia Allen (9) accounted for 19 of Wests 22 points.
A win was much needed, and we got it, Coach Allen said.

SALISBURY South Rowans boys played a good quarter on Friday in the Sam Moir Christmas Classic, but one wasnt enough.
Fifth-seeded Mount Pleasant beat the eighth-seeded Raiders 80-49, extending Souths losing streak to 56 games.
Souths 20-point second quarter made it a competitive consolation game at halftime South trailed 35-29 at that point but the Tigers dominated the third quarter and pulled away.
Mason Perkins scored 20 for the Tigers (5-5), while Cooper Perkins had 18.
Tristian Littlejohn had a strong game for South (0-11) with 14 points.
Hes been a leader since he returned from a concussion.
Jadon Moore turned in another double-digit game with 11 points, while Carter Rohletter had 10.
