The Vandals lost 24-14, but Marshall had nine tackles.

Marshall joins a Husker secondary that will have its fourth position coach in three seasons.

Travis Fisher coached the unit in 2022 as part of Scott Frosts old staff, while Evan Cooper coached one year under Matt Rhule in 2023.

When Cooper abruptly resigned in summer 2024, Rhule hired John Butler, who coached the unit through the season before taking the defensive coordinator job in December.

Butler then hired Addison Williams to coach the defensive backs.

From its defensive backfield, NU loses starters Tommi Hill who missed much of the season with plantar fasciitis Issac Gifford and DeShon Singleton, although Singleton, based on a recent NCAA ruling may be able to apply for more eligibility as a former junior college athlete.

Nebraska returns Ceyair Wright, Marques Buford and Malcolm Hartzog.

All three can and have played cornerback.

NU has shown some interest in both Buford and Hartzog playing safety.

NU has already added three transfer defensive linemen (Williams Nwaneri, Jaylen George, Gabe Moore) and an outside linebacker, Oklahomas Dasan McCullough, who can also play safety if needed.
