MIAMI The North Carolina Tar Heels shook the college football world with the news they hired six-time Super Bowl winner Bill Belichick .

Although the former New England Patriots coach had unprecedented success in the NFL, he has never coached in college.

That means he has never needed to recruit high school players instead of drafting new, professional players.

Although Belichick has not yet hit the recruiting trail, several South Florida prospects said they would certainly listen intently if they were to get a call from the former Patriots coach.

I think thats definitely a big deal, especially because of the background he has, St.

Thomas Aquinas 2026 four-star prospect Justice Fitzpatrick said.

Hes a legend.

I think thats definitely a big thing.

Itll definitely be a big thing if he calls.

Id love to see how he can build the program and see how they do.

North Carolina does not recruit South Florida intensely.

Only three South Florida players including Chaminade-Madonna running back Davion Gause and Cardinal Gibbons quarterback Michael Merdinger have signed with the Tar Heels since 2020.

All three of them were in the 2024 class.

But UNCs regionality might not limit the program with Belichick at the helm, given his universal respect among football players and coaches around the country.

Any high school coach or player would take a call from the coach widely considered to be the best NFL coach of all time.

Chaminade-Madonna 2026 three-star wide receiver Jasen Lopez said it would be crazy just to talk to the legendary coach.

That would be crazy, Lopez said.

Bill Belichicks a legend.

Hes coached great guys.

That would actually be crazy to me if I even talked to Bill Belichick.

St.

Thomas Aquinas 2027 cornerback Zayden Gamble thought the same, calling the move a great hire.

He said he would love to be recruited by Belichick.

That would be amazing, Gamble said.

Having one of the greatest NFL coaches talk to me, that means a lot to me.

But if thats where God (wants) me to go, I would be honored..
