The Joplin Sports Authority, as a not-for-profit sports commission, is a member of the Show Me Missouri Sports Group.

This is a conglomerate of 11 Missouri sports commissions and convention and visitors bureaus that represent the state at national conventions in the world of sports.

Membership of the SMMS includes the cities of Branson, Kansas City, St.

Louis, St.

Joseph, Lake of the Ozarks, Maryland Heights, Cape Girardeau, Columbia, Springfield, St.

Charles and Joplin.

The organization works to bring sporting events to our great state.

Each member has areas where it excels.

For example, Kansas City has the Chiefs, and St.

Louis has the Blues.

This allows them to host NFL drafts or the NCAA Division I mens hockey championship, respectively.

Joplin Sports Authority excels at hosting small college and youth sport regional and national tournaments such as the National Junior College Athletic Association mens golf championship, the NJCAA Womens Division 2 basketball championship, the National Christian College Athletic Association volleyball championship, NCCAA mens and womens basketball championships, NJCAA Region 16 baseball tournament, the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference womens golf championship, the American Junior Golf Association, and many more events like these.

In addition, we are members of the Sports Events and Tourism Association, which is fundamentally our sports commission governing body.

With our membership we are able to attend several conventions that bring sports commission and destinations together with sports organizations such as the NCAA, Monster Games, NJCAA, NAIA, MIAA, KCAC, NCAA, Premier Baseball, Cal Ripkin Baseball, USA Pickleball Association, AJGA, etc.

We also attend the Sports Travel Exchange TEAMS conference, which is a similar conference with a different format on bringing the destinations and event rights holders together to work on schedules and contracts.

Without these opportunities to interact with other destinations and the rights holders, it would be extremely difficult to recruit these organizations to our community.

We are fortunate that the state of Missouri has been supportive of the sports commissions within the state to give us a competitive advantage in recruiting to our state.

We look forward to continued support from our state legislature in bringing these wonderful championships and the economic impact that goes with hosting events to our local communities.

Here are a few events we have coming up: Sept.

15-16: Crowder College baseball hosts the Fall Showcase.

Sept.

20-21: Missouri Southern State University hosts the Missouri Southern Stampede for cross country.

Sept.

27-29: The Joplin Disc Golf Club hosts the Four States Open.

Again, as always, thank you to our local schools, universities, city governments and businesses for supporting us as we continue to grow our events..
