In case you doubted the laws of thermodynamics, the Big 12 is proof that closed systems do, in fact, gravitate toward chaos.

No.

15 Arizona State and No.

16 Iowa State face off for the conference championship despite both teams looking boxed out just three weeks ago.

ASU beat Kansas State and BYU in back-to-back weeks, and Kansas concurrent giant-killing run paved the way for both the Sun Devils and Cyclones to slip in.

ASU, new to the conference this season, is a slight favorite.

But with another running back chasing down the single-season rushing record and a two-way star in his own conference, hell have to settle for the Big 12 scrimmage yards crown.

Iowa State offers little resistance on the ground, giving up 164 yards per game and only managing to keep opponents under 100 yards three times all season.

Skattebo should have no trouble making hay against the Cyclones, which is good since ASU quarterback Sam Leavitt is in for a long day.

Iowa State is third in the country against the pass, trailing only Texas and Ohio State at 156.9 yards per game.

Jordyn Tyson is ASUs primary weapon through the air, with 10 touchdowns and more than 1,000 yards, but he was injured in the Arizona game.

Darien Porter is an elite shutdown corner for the Cyclones, allowing a completion rate of just 31.3 percent and dragging opposing quarterbacks passer rating down to 6.8 when they target him.

Without Tyson, it will be extremely difficult to move the ball via the pass.

With him, it will still be the toughest sledding ASU has had all season.

The Cyclones prefer to do their offensive damage through the air, which lines up well against a Sun Devil defense that is stingy with points but is much tougher against the run.

Iowa State averages 258 passing yards per game.

ASU allows nearly 220 air yards per contest, so ISU quarterback Rocco Becht and his two 1,000-yard receivers Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel should be front and center every possession.

This is one of the few conference championship pairings featuring teams that didnt meet in-season, and with a playoff spot on the line, first impressions will be a doozy.
