(AP) Tua Tagovailoa is now dealing with the third diagnosed concussion of his NFL career, all of them coming in the last 24 months.

And there are now questions about his future both short-term and long-term.

The Miami Dolphins quarterback was hurt in his teams 31-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night, sustaining the injury on a play where he collided into Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin.

Tagovailoa, who was rushing successfully for a first down, initiated the contact by lowering his shoulder into Hamlin instead of sliding as many quarterbacks do on a scramble.

(AP) All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey has been ruled out of this weekends game for the San Francisco 49ers because of his lingering calf and Achilles injuries.

He could be headed to injured reserve.

McCaffrey was held out of practice after experiencing pain the previous day.

He was ruled out of the game Sunday against Minnesota after expressing hope earlier in the week that he could play.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said the team will discuss whether to shut McCaffrey down for at least four more weeks by placing him on injured reserve after saying earlier in the week that wasnt under consideration.

Chiefs trainer defends response to eye injury sustained by Ravens linebacker Kyle Van Noy KANSAS CITY, Mo.

(AP) Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder defended his medical staffs response to the eye injury sustained by Ravens linebacker Kyle Van Noy last week.

Burkholder said Friday that he spoke with their medical staff and exchanged text messages with Baltimore coach John Harbaugh to clear the air.

Van Noy injured his right eye in the third quarter of the first NFL game last week, which Kansas City won 27-20.

He said later that he was disappointed about how long it took for the Chiefs doctors to see him in the locker room after leaving the field.

Van Noy was seen by Ravens physicians.

Driver charged with killing NHL's Johnny Gaudreau and his brother had .087 blood-alcohol level PHILADELPHIA (AP) Prosecutors say the driver charged with killing NHL hockey player Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew as they bicycled on a rural road had a blood-alcohol level of .087.

That's above the .08 legal limit in New Jersey.

At a virtual court hearing Friday, they say 43-year-old suspect Sean Higgins also has a history of road rage.

A judge has ordered him detained until trial.

Gaudreau, known as Johnny Hockey, was home in South Jersey for his sisters wedding the next day.

Defense lawyers say Higgins is a married father with no criminal history before the August 29 crash.

Chiefs WR Marquise Brown to have shoulder surgery next week, will be placed on IR KANSAS CITY, Mo.

(AP) The Chiefs are putting wide receiver Marquise Brown on injured reserve because of the dislocated shoulder joint he sustained in the preseason against Jacksonville.

He will have surgery next week in Vail, Colorado.

The designation will keep Brown out for at least four games, though the Chiefs are bracing for it to be much longer.

The rest of the Chiefs wide receivers were productive in last weeks season-opening win over Baltimore.

They will be counted upon again on Sunday against Cincinnati.

Tiger Woods has another surgery on lower back to relieve pinched nerves Tiger Woods is on the mend again after a sixth surgery on his lower back.

Woods posted a brief statement on social media that he had microdecompression surgery on his lumbar spine Friday morning.

That's also known as a microdiscectomy.

It's his first surgery on his lower back since December 2020.

Woods says the surgery went well and he hopes it alleviate the back spasms he's been experiencing this year.

The recovery can be anywhere from eight to 12 weeks.

Woods wasn't scheduled to play again until December in the Bahamas and then with his son in the PNC Championship.

Florida State asks judge to rule on parts of suit against ACC, hoping for resolution without trial TALLAHASSEE, Fla.

(AP) Florida State has asked a judge to decide key parts of its lawsuit against the Atlantic Coast Conference without a trial, hoping for a quicker resolution and path to a possible exit from the league.

Florida State requested a partial summary judgment from the judge in a 574-page document filed this week in Leon County, the Tallahassee-based schools home court.

Florida State sued the ACC in December, challenging the validity of a contract that binds the school to the conference and other members through media rights.

FSU claims the leagues exit fees and penalties for withdrawal are exorbitant and unfair.

(AP) Top-ranked Nelly Korda won both her matches to carry the United States to a record 6-2 lead over Europe on the first day of the Solheim Cup.

Korda teamed with Allisen Corpuz to beat Esther Henseleit and Charley Hull in alternate shot, and then paired with Megan Khang in better ball to overwhelm Georgia Hall and Leona Maguire 6-2 in the afternoon.

Korda came into the Solheim Cup with a winning record in three appearances, but Europe captured the cup each time.
