The New York Yankees' biggest rival could poach away their All-Star outfielder this winter.

As reported by Jon Morosi of MLB Network and Randy Miller of NJ.com, the Boston Red Sox join the New York Yankees, New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers as potential suitors for free agent outfielder Juan Soto.

All four teams placed financial offers to him.

Hector Gomez of Z101 Digital reports that the Red Sox offered Soto a 13-year, $625 million contract.

This is financially significant as only Shohei Ohtani, who signed a 10-year, $700 million deal with the Dodgers in 2024 , will be making more than Soto.

Here are three reasons why the Red Sox should sign Soto.

The return of the franchise player With all due respect to Rafael Devers, Boston has arguably not had a franchise player since Mookie Betts.

He helped the Red Sox to a World Series championship in 2018 and won the American League Most Valuable Player and batting title that same season.

Betts was a four-time All-Star before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in February 2020.

Having a franchise player matters because they are the face of the team and the main driver of the club's success.

They immediately impact the team, and Soto possesses these characteristics.

Along with Trea Turner, he was one of the leaders of the 2019 World Series champion Washington Nationals (even as a 20-year-old), and he teamed up with Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton on the Yankees' run to the World Series in 2024.

Soto has had a storied seven-year professional career.

Though only 26, he is a four-time All-Star and won the National League batting title with a .351 average during the COVID-19-shortened 2020 campaign.

Soto also batted .288 with 41 home runs and 109 RBI for the New York Yankees last season.

He has a .285 career batting average with 201 homers and 592 RBI.

Gaining another player with World Series experience The Red Sox have not won an American League pennant since 2018, and Devers is the only player on the current roster left from that team.

Soto has appeared in two World Series since 2019 and is fresh off the 2024 World Series with the Yankees.

In his two World Series appearances, Soto batted .326 with 14 hits and four home runs.

He has been an impact player in the postseason, something the Red Sox need.

Soto's postseason experience and leadership will ensure his future teammates are confident in working toward a postseason run.

Return to relevancy Since 2019, the Red Sox have finished last in the AL East three times and missed the playoffs five times.

Acquiring Soto will aid the Red Sox in rebuilding its championship brand.

After winning four World Series and making 10 postseason appearances from 2004 to 2021, the home fans have stayed away the past three seasons amid the disappointment and the franchise's failure to spend.

However, if Soto signs with the Sox, Fenway Park could be a packed house again.

Soto will amplify the Red Sox offense, including Devers, Jarren Duran and Masataka Yoshida, and help Boston return to the postseason next year..
