Theres a lot of room for improvement for Wake Forests football program and Coach Dave Clawson hopes the latest recruiting class can fill some of those holes.

The Demon Deacons are coming off two straight 4-8 seasons.

Its the first time theyve suffered back-to-back losing seasons since Clawsons first two years in 2014 and 15.

Clawson announced a class of 20 high-school players with several of them enrolling this spring to get a jump on college life.

Among those who signed were two Dudley High School stars in defensive backs Koredell Bartley, who is 5-foot-11 and 173 pounds, and Jerron Blackwell, who is 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds.

Both players should help in a defensive backfield that was one of the weakest aspects of Wake Forests team last season.

We're thrilled to welcome this talented group of young men who have chosen to pursue their academic and athletic journeys at Wake Forest, Clawson said in a statement.

Spanning many states, this class brings a diverse mix of skills that will drive our program forward.

I'm incredibly grateful for the effort our staff has put in over the past two years to bring together this class." People are also reading...

Blackwell had 35 tackles this past season and nine pass breakups helping the Panthers to the playoffs.

Bartley had 31 tackles this past season with three sacks and also had 1,718 all-purpose yards on offense.

He had two punt returns for touchdowns and had 30 catches as a wide receiver and he could end up playing there instead of defensive back.

Dudleys Jerron Blackwell is heading to Wake Forest next fall to play football.

Another key player in the class is quarterback Elijiah Oehlke, who is 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds from Fayetteville.
