Tim Cowlishaw: The CFP is a fun, hot mess, but its imperfections should be corrected in short order

DALLAS Now that most of the college football world is in complete agreement that the CFP committee got it right with the first 12-team playoff field (as Alabama, grudgingly, settles into its ReliaQuest Bowl preparations against Michigan), we should mention that this has already shown itself to be a most imperfect format.

With more imperfections to come in the future.

That shouldnt surprise us given the mess (mostly a fun mess) that is college football today.

At the same time 12 teams are getting ready for the biggest postseason playoff ever, about 1,000 FBS athletes (give or take) are expected to enter the transfer portal for next season.

That includes former SMU starting quarterback Preston Stone, now the backup to Kevin Jennings.

He will continue to be a Mustang as long as the team keeps rolling, but an injury to Jennings could have Stone playing for SMU and auditioning for the rest of the college world at the same time.
