Twin Falls 61, Canyon Ridge 51 TWIN FALLS Trey Billings first taste of a varsity crosstown rivalry exceeded his expectations.

Twin Falls' Trey Billings drives on Canyon Ridge's Christian Waitley during their game Tuesday night, Dec.

10, 2024, at Twin Falls High School.

No more junior varsity.

No more sideline watching.

Instead, the Twin Falls sophomore scored a game-high 22 points as the Bruins labored to their second straight win over their crosstown rivals.

It means a lot, Billings told the Times-News .

Love to be in a rivalry and our team played great.

We had great chemistry today and I think it was just a great game from us.

Welcome to the big show.

It was a lot of stadium pulse, he said.

It was a lot different than JV but it was so fun.

I was not expecting it.

Twin Falls junior Ty Hess helped in the win with 15 points.

Ugly game for us I thought on both sides, Twin Falls head coach Mac Stannard told the Times-News .

A lot of mistakes.

A lot of missed shots but I am just proud of our guys for digging in.

Our goal right now is to just be the toughest, grittiest team we can be and I feel like we do on the defensive end.

I feel like we give ourselves a chance while we wait for our offense to catch up.

Twin Falls senior Ryker Rex chipped in 13 points.

I have just been talking more, Rex told the Times-News .

Trying to get our guys going.

Twin Falls' Ryker Rex brings the ball up against Canyon Ridge on Tuesday night, Dec.

10, 2024, at Twin Falls High School.

Canyon Ridge, without senior Kade McEntire (ankle) and College of Southern Idaho signee Mason Hill (illness) held a 24-23 halftime lead, thanks to key shots down the stretch from Dylan Brown and Conner Cartwright.

Mason Hill is the start of the Golden Eagles 2025 recruiting class and could join 2023 Canyon Ridge alumnus Samuel Lupumba on CSIs roster next fall.

I thought there were some really bright moments throughout the game, Canyon Ridge head coach Alex Wells told the Times-News .

I thought we did some pretty nice things and then ultimately I think Twin outcompeted us tonight....

They beat us to loose balls.

They got timely rebounds.

They hit tough shots so it is a good learning experience.

The absence of Hill, a 6-foot-10 center, resulted in the Riverhawks using all ends of the court as they found success of the deep ball.

The lead quickly evaporated in the second half as Twin Falls won the offensive glass battle and constantly fed Billings in the paint.

Twin Falls quickly changed its game plan before tipoff after they learned Hill was absent, Stannard said, though the defensive mindset didnt change.

...I thought the guy that stepped in, (Christian) Waitley, did a great job, Stannard said.

Our guys responded and they played defense like we expect them to.

Twin Falls' Ty Hess (1) is fouled by Canyon Ridge's Conner Cartwright during their game Tuesday night, Dec.

10, 2024, at Twin Falls High School.

Brown led the Riverhawks with 14 points while Hunter Brewer added 10 points.

Cartwright and Waitley contributed nine points each.

These are still nonconference games as Canyon Ridge is in its first year at 6A.

We just kinda got our butts kicked tonight, to be honest, Wells said.

We kinda just got beat up a little bit.

Filer 61, Mountain Home 30 Highlights from Filer's 61-30 win over Mountain Home on Dec.

10, 2024.

FILER It wasnt always pretty, but Wildcats head coach Rob Anderson liked that his team played a full four quarters Tuesday night.

Filer scored the first 11 points and never led by as many as 33 points in a dominant win.

Thats what you hope for every time you come out and play, Anderson told the Times-News .

Is you dont have any letdowns or a quarter thats low and they were able to not have that tonight.

Seniors Owen Grant and Preston Volle led the way, with Grant scoring a game-high 20 points and Volle chipping in 18.

Like last season, the Wildcats success tonight started on the defensive end.

They knew the Tigers could hang around if they built belief throughout the game, but Filer never gave them that chance.

Just played solid the entire game to not let them back in, Grant told the Times-News .

The Wildcats graduated eight seniors from its first district championship team in 11 years and return three from that squad in Grant, Volle and junior Xavier Kelsey.

This years eight player roster has experience together, just not at the varsity level.

They built chemistry quickly this summer in AAU tournaments, which has helped in the early part of this season.

Filer has been competitive in every game, with wins over Sugar-Salem (54-52) and Mountain Home and losses to Skyline (62-54) and Snake River (62-45).

Last season was the Wildcats first winning season in more than a decade, and this years group wants to show that wasnt a fluke.

We want to show that were not a one year wonder, Volle told the Times-News .

Were gonna come back, were gonna build the program and itll just continue.
