College Roundup: Three Grove City College swimmer honored by PAC

GROVE CITY The Presidents Athletic Conference honored three Grove City College swimmers Monday afternoon with weekly awards in recognition of their respective performances last Friday and Saturday at the Wheaton (Ill.) Invitational.
Junior Caleb Einolf earned Mens Swimmer of the Week while the Grove City womens squad swept Mondays awards.
Freshman Hadleigh McNay captured Swimmer of the Week on the womens side and freshman Freja Kile secured Newcomer of the Week.
Einolf earned three individual wins, four relay wins and two school records to help the Wolverines win the team title at the eight-team Wheaton Invitational.
He won the 100 breaststroke in 54.69 seconds after posting a school-record time of 54.30 in the preliminaries.
Einolf set a pool, meet and Grove City record while winning the 100 butterfly (47.75) and then won the 50 free in 20.36 seconds.
All three individual event times surpass the NCAA Division III Championships provisional qualifying standard.
Einolf also contributed to the victorious 400 medley (3:21.51); 200 medley (1:31.60); 200 free (1:23.32) and 400 free (3:04.29) relay wins.
The four relay times posted at the Invitational are all tops in the conference this season.
McNay swept the breaststroke at Wheaton Invitational, helping Grove City place second in the team standings.
McNay won the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.28, then took the 200 breaststroke in 2:27.59.
She also helped Grove Citys 200 (1:49.58) and 400 (4:03.17) medley relay teams take second.
McNays breaststroke times both rank first so far this season in the conference.
Grove City also owns the top 200 and 400 medley relay times this season in the league.
Kile helped Grove Citys 800 free relay to a winning time of 8:08.41 at the Wheaton Invitational.
She also helped the 400 free relay take third in a time of 3:41.29.
Individually, Kile finished fifth in the 1650 (19:19.91), seventh in the 200 free (2:01.07) and seventh in the 500 (5:28.92).
Her 200 free preliminary time of 2:00.03 ranks first in the conference.
The Grove City teams return to action Saturday, Jan.
18 when the Wolverines host Penn State Behrend at 1 p.m.
Freshman Jack Katigbak was selected as the PAC Mens Swimming & Diving Newcomer of the Week Monday afternoon.
Katigbak totaled 66 points at last weeks The College of Wooster Invitational.
On Friday, he registered a fourth-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.99 seconds.
Saturday, he scored a fourth-place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:56.75.
Katigbak was the lone freshman to earn a spot in the A finals of both backstroke events.
Thursday night, he was 13th in the 50 freestyle (22.27).
Katigbaks time in the 200 backstroke ranks second in the league while his time in the 100 backstroke ranks third.
Katigbak also anchored the 200 freestyle relay (1:32.30, split of 22.09), swam backstroke on the 200 medley relay (1:44.27, split of 27.28) and 400 medley relay (3:39.86, split of 53.05) and led off the 400 freestyle relay (3:21.02, split of 50.05).
Westminster is scheduled to compete at Florida Southern University in Lakeland, Fla.

Freshman forward Ella Kassan was named the PAC Womens Basketball Newcomer of the Week Monday afternoon.
Kassan helped Westminster capture its first conference win last Wednesday, a 71-43 triumph at Thiel College.
She had a career-best performance against the Tomcats, scoring 12 points and securing seven boards in her third-straight start.
She added an assist and a block in 12 minutes.
Through four games (4 starts) this season, Kassan is averaging 5.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
Westminster is back in action Monday, Dec.
16 when it hosts Waynesburg University.
Tipoff at Buzz Ridl Gymnasium is scheduled for 2 p.m.
HIRAM, Ohio The Thiel College Womens Basketball team fell to Hiram College 88-55 on the road Monday.
Freshman Bria Ringloff led the Tomcat offense with 10 points and two assists.
With a team total of 33 rebounds, Ringloff, Maddy Triskett, and Taylor Susany each grabbed four boards to guide Thiels defense.
Jensen Stehlik (9) and Kayley Risser (8) both went 3-4 from the field, with Risser picking up two rebounds and both had two assists.
Thiel was able to keep Hiram to 7-24 (29.2%) from the three-point line throughout the game and 16-41 from the field in the second half.
The Terrier offense was conducted by Brooke Hickman, who had a 30-point and 20 rebound game to earn herself a double-double.
Sarah Seaman (14) and Avril Drew (11) had a combined eight rebounds to add to Hirams defensive set.
The Tomcats will be back in action Dec.
30th when they host Pitt-Greensburg.
