Juan Soto completed the most lucrative deal in professional sports history as he signed his monster contract with the New York Mets .

Soto put pen to paper on a 15-year, $765million contract to remain in New York having entered free agency from the Yankees .

The race for the superstar outfielders signature was a hotly-contested one before the Mets eventually won the race, with the deal topping the 10-year, $700m contract Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani signed before the start of the season.

The 26-year-olds contract is said to contain no deferred money, a $75m bonus, an opt-out clause to leave after 2029 and several incentives that could take the overall worth to as high as $800m.

Mitchell is a New York native and has been outspoken as a Mets fan in the past as he embodied the feelings of the teams fans following the news.

He has regularly posted on X during Mets games and was incredibly active in discussing their 2024 playoff run and World Series chances before the Dodgers eliminated them in the NLCS.

The former Utah Jazz aces dad also worked for the Mets minor league system which heavily influenced his choice of teams as a youngster and sparked his love for baseball.

Mitchell was a bat boy for Kingsport Mets, the franchises Rookie League team at the time.

Soto signed for the Yankees last season in a trade with the San Diego Padres, who he joined after winning the World Series with the Washington Nationals in 2019.

He joined free agency at the end of the season and was a target for the Red Sox, Blue Jays and the Dodgers.

But he opted to cross the New York divide and join the Mets in a bid to win the teams third World Series title and their first since 1986.

Sotos deal also trumps Kansas City Chiefs three-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Patrick Mahomes NFL-leading 10-year, $450m deal and NBA champion Jayson Tatums 5-year, $314m extension he signed after winning the title with the Boston Celtics..
