Proposed Red Sox trade sends two starters to Mariners for frontline starting pitcher | Sporting News

The Boston Red Sox are looking for some frontline pitching to upgrade their starting rotation, and this proposed trade can do that and then some.
Per Play Tessie , a proposed trade between the Sox and Seattle Mariners would land All-Star ace Luis Castillo in Boston for Wilyer Abreu and Masataka Yoshida.
Forms of this trade were already proposed separately, with a straight up contract-swap for Yoshida and Castillo , and one for Wilyer Abreu and getting someone in return .
This trade is better than those two, as it gets rid of Yoshidas contract, and moves Abreu for an All-Star pitcher, like the Sox planned.
Another reason its better is the Mariners probably wouldn't accept only Yoshida due to his injury history, and Abreu provides even more offense, which the Mariners need.
Yoshida played in 108 games, slashing .280/.349/.415/.765 with 10 homers and 21 doubles.
Abreu slashed .253/.322/.459/.781 with 15 homers and 33 doubles.
Castillo started 30 games, obtained a record of 10-11, with a 3.64 ERA and 175 strikeouts.
Finally, while moving Abreu with Yoshida seems superfluous, it opens up a spot in the outfield, which allows the Sox to bring up Roman Anthony, the teams top prospect, and the best in baseball.
Hopefully, something like this trade goes through so the Sox can achieve their offseason goals.
