Braves ink deal with Rafael Devers’ cousin

Thanksgiving has arrived, and the Braves have still yet to make a significant splash, but they have made several small transactions, including an interesting one today.

According to Aram Leighton, the club has agreed to a minor-league pact with Jose Devers, the cousin of Boston Red Sox All-Star third baseman Rafael Devers.

Unfortunately, Jose Devers isnt on the same trajectory as his cousin, at least not yet.

At 24 years old, hes appeared in just 24 MLB games, boasting a .244 average, no home runs, and a .611 OPS.

He also hit .244 with a .676 OPS over 64 games this year across three levels, primarily for AAA Jacksonville.

Its not likely Devers will ever make a significant impact for the team in Atlanta; however, he can play both second base and shortstop, which should give him an outside chance at appearing for the Braves at some point.

As currently constructed, Orlando Arcia is the starting shortstop, and if the Braves dont add anybody, it will be an open competition for the utility infield spot off the bench.

Without any more acquisitions, Jose Devers could potentially win that job.
