For dessert, the Iowa senior defensive lineman prefers pecan pie and decidedly does not like pumpkin pie.
This year, Black intends to share his favorite dishes and his Thanksgiving meal with the Hawkeyes whole defensive line following Iowas usual Wednesday night team feast.
I love Thanksgiving, Black said.
I was just talking to my girlfriend and she was like, Yeah, I could cook.
We always have a date night a Thursday meal.
She was thinking about Thanksgiving and we were like, Yeah, why not? It is good to have just everybody as a group to be together and a have a good time and have a home-cooked meal.
Black further explained that the decision to host his teammates for the meal combined his girlfriend Hailiy's love of cooking and his experience surrounding the short week at Iowa.
I know I did not go home for awhile, Black said.
To have a nice home-cooked meal will make some of the guys feel at home.
He added the menu will include mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, stuffing (for obvious reasons), broccoli and bacon-wrapped asparagus.
We got a meal, Black said.
Max Llewellyn said his favorite dish to eat at Thanksgiving is mac and cheese and is excited to celebrate the holiday with his teammates.
"That is gonna be a blast," Llewellyn said.
The junior from Urbandale added that "just getting together" was his favorite part of the holiday.
In addition to the smorgasbord, Iowa defensive line coach Kelvin Bell will be providing sweet potato pie.
That will hit, Black said.
Additionally, the group made the decision to opt for a spiral ham rather than a more traditional Thanksgiving turkey.
According to Black, it was not a controversial decision.
I have asked a couple of guys, they are good with it, Black said.
I really have not gotten around, but we might have to ask a little more.
That might have to just be a question that floats around: Turkey or Ham.
