Photos: Worthington girls basketball plays home opener against Mankato West

WORTHINGTON The Worthington High School girls basketball team played its home opener Tuesday against Mankato West, falling 88-47.
The Trojans fell to an 0-2 start to the young season, having been defeated by Redwood Valley on the road last Friday 83-46.
The Scarlets won their first game and are 1-2 this season following Tuesdays win.
ADVERTISEMENT 3-point baskets were falling early and often for Mankato West as the team hit 13 in the first half to open up a big lead.
The Scarlets stormed in front 13-0 right away in the first half before a pair of free throws from WHS senior Jayden Spartz finally put the Trojans on the board.
Shortly after that, a layup from fellow senior Saige Scheepstra gave them their first field goal.
Spartz and Scheepstra were the two leading scorers in the game for Worthington.
Spartz scored a game-high 14 points, including 10 in the first half, and Scheepstra totaled 13 on the night, seven in the first half.
Grace Bates gave WHS a quick spark late in the first half wtih five points.
After the Scarlets got that 13-0 advantage, they kept growing their lead thanks to hot 3-point shooting and forcing turnovers on defense with a full-court press, which led to many points in transition.
Near the end of the first half, Worthingtons offense started to get going more as the team moved the ball around and worked it inside, along with hitting some mid-range shots as well.
But Mankato West didnt slow down as the lead grew past 40 points in the first half before an eventual 66-27 halftime lead.
A trey opened the second half for the Scarlets as treyballs kept falling.
They would maintain their lead for the rest of the contest, at one point growing it to a near 50-point advantage en route to the win.
The Trojans aim for their first win Saturday against a good Windom Area Eagles team.
Windom is unbeaten at 2-0 after picking up back-to-back road wins of 30 or more points.
The Eagles first win came Nov.
21 in a 64-33 effort over Edgerton and the next win was Nov.
23 in an 80-59 rout of Adrian/Ellsworth.
Saturdays game will tip at 4 p.m.
at Minnesota West Community and Technical College.
The two teams played a season-opening game at the college last year with Windom grabbing a 66-51 win..
