First, Quinn Ewers led his Texas Longhorns to a massive road victory over the reigning champion Michigan Wolverines.

Then, he moved up to the No.

2 position among all quarterbacks on the latest big board from ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr.

.

Kiper released the latest edition of his rankings Friday, and Georgia's Carson Beck is still the No.

1 signal-caller.

However, Ewers jumped ahead of Colorado's Shedeur Sanders for the No.

2 spot in those same rankings.

Ewers rose from No.

16 to No.

9 overall, while Sanders fell from No.

9 to No.

14.

"Ewers has the opportunity and traits to catch Beck in this quarterback class, but he needs to keep improving his consistency as a passer," Kiper wrote.

"Though he has already taken big steps there since his freshman yearhis completion rate jumped from 58.1% in 2022 to 69.0% in 2023he misses on too many throws.

"Ewers can spin it effortlessly to any part of the field and hit his spots, though, thanks to elite arm talent.

He also does a nice job avoiding pressure in the pocket, slipping and sliding to create time and room to operate.

He looked great against Michigan in Week 2, finishing with an 89.6 QBR." As for Sanders, Kiper highlighted his toughness and resilience playing behind an offensive line that consistently struggles.

Still, Ewers figures to have more high-profile opportunities to bolster his stock than the Buffaloes' quarterback given the nature of their respective teams.

Texas is now No.

2 in the Associated Press Top 25 and will likely be a national title contender all season in the SEC.

After defeating Michigan, the Longhorns have just two games remaining against ranked teams (Georgia and Oklahoma) and could still make the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff even with a loss in one or both of them.

As for Colorado, it seems well on its way to another disappointing season after going 4-8 last year.

The offensive line was basically invisible during Saturday's 28-10 loss to Nebraska, and there is little reason to think things will improve once Big 12 play begins.

The Buffaloes even making a bowl game would be a surprise given the way they've played since starting the 2023 campaign 3-0.

But Sanders' talent still stands out, and he will look to improve his draft standing as the season progresses..
