According to comments made at Blake Snells introductory press conference with the Dodgers , Juan Soto and Scott Boras have begun to eliminate teams from the field of potential suitors.

The same reports suggest that the teams still in contention - rumored to be the Mets , Yankees , Red Sox , Dodgers, and Blue Jays - all have bids of over $600 million, and that the signing will happen before or at next weeks Winter Meetings in Dallas for maximum exposure.

MLB.com put together a roundtable of insiders , including Mets beat reporter Anthony DiComo, to discuss the state of the Soto market, and while there isnt a ton of hard news in there, there are a few items of note for Mets fans, with the big takeaway being that all the insiders either believe the Mets are the frontrunners or at least tied with the Yankees in that regard.

All of the teams have selling points, from the Blue Jays reported desire to be the highest bidder to the Red Soxs deep Dominican roots and support from Sox luminaries like David Ortiz and Pedro Martinez, to the Yankees proven track record and comfortability, to the Mets dedication to attempting to win every season.

The Dodgers can never be counted out, but no one seems to think that, unless it is an absolutely over the top offer that the other teams cant match, they have much of a shot, given Sotos reported preference to play on the East Coast.

While all of this is vague and speculative, it also makes sense.

We know that Boras likes to make a big splash on the biggest stages, and so a press conference at the Winter Meetings is logical.

Considering that a lot of the free agent market is going to be waiting on the Soto starting gun, including a lot of Boras clients, it behooves everyone involved to not let this process drag on for too terribly long..
