College Roundup: Penn State Shenango women's basketball team grabs win at Thiel

GREENVILLE The Penn State Shenango womens basketball team (3-4) picked up a 70-51 non-conference win at Thiel on Monday.
The Lions offense was led by SharDa Williamson, who scored 16 points, and (Sharon High), who scored 13.
Sellers also added eight rebounds, two assists and three steals.
Hailee Aguinaga had a team high 15 rebounds, while also putting up nine points.
Thiel was able to hold Shenango to 37.3% from the field and 27.3% from the 3-point line.
Freshman Issy Green and sophomore (Lakeview High) led Thiels offense by collecting 11 points each.
Seddon had nine rebounds while Green had eight, both shooting over .500 on the free throw line.
Green went 4-4 from the free throw line in the first half, while collecting a team high four steals throughout the game.
Seddon had a second half surge of 10 points and eight rebounds, playing a total of 24 minutes.
Penn State Shenango visits Penn State York at 6 p.m.
Friday and then visits Penn State Mont Alto at 1 p.m.
Saturday.
The Tomcats remain at home when they host Westminster on Wednesday.
The PAC match-up will begin at 5:30 p.m.
and will also be dedicated to the Make a Wish Foundation.
The Titans suffered an 82-69 Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) setback to Saint Vincent College Monday night at Buzz Ridl Gymnasium in New Wilmington.
Saint Vincent, winners of three straight, improved to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the league.
Westminster fell to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the PAC.
The Titans have dropped four straight.
Saint Vincent has now won three of its last four against Westminster.
A pivotal 14-0 run, capped by a Mike Iuzzolino jumper with just over three minutes left in the first, stretched Saint Vincents lead to 19, 31-12.
Dev Ostrowskis three-pointer with 14 seconds left in the half gave the Bearcats a 20-point lead, 37-20, going into the break.
The 20 points were a first half low for Westminster this season.
Maxwell Gordon paced Saint Vincent with eight first half points.
The Bearcats shot 44.4 percent (16-36) from the field in the opening half.
Junior guard Mick Hergenrother had seven in the first for Westminster.
Twenty-four of Saint Vincents 36 first half points were scored in the paint.
Jevonte Jones layup pushed Saint Vincents lead to 22, 58-36, with just over 12 minutes to play before freshman guard (Hickory High) layup capped a Westminster 9-0 burst that trimmed the lead to 13, 58-45, with less than 10 remaining.
Westminster managed to whittle Saint Vincents lead down to 10, 73-63, on freshman guard Trevor Siefkes tip-in with 2:31 to go.
Powered by a 9-2 spurt, Saint Vincent ran its lead to 17, 82-65, on Jadakis Macks layup.
Junior guard Jaxon Hendershott had a career-high 20 points for the Titans.
He went 7-of-12 from the floor and 5-of-8 from three-point range.
Junior guard Drew Weir added 15 points and eight rebounds.
Sophomore guard Skevos Kouros posted six points and had a career-high 10 boards.
Jones led five Saint Vincent double-digit scorers with 16 points while Osyon Jones added 15.
Dev Ostrowski finished with a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double while Gordon chipped in with 12.
Iuzzolino had 10.
Saint Vincent shot 46.4 percent (32-69) from the field despite making just 12-of-25 (.480) of its attempted free throws.
Westminsters bench produced 25 points compared to Saint Vincents 17.
Westminster will travel to Greenville Wednesday to take on Thiel College.

Behind a stellar all-around performance by Jomo Goings, the Slippery Rock University mens basketball team earned a 70-56 non-conference victory over West Virginia Wesleyan College Monday at Morrow Field House in Slippery Rock.
The Rocks victory snapped a five-game losing streak and improved their record to 3-6 overall while the Bobcats fall to 1-5 following the loss.
Goings did a little bit of everything in leading SRU to the victory by turning in an 18-point, seven-steal, five-rebound, four-assist, two-block performance.
Already one of the nations best in steals, Goings, who shot 5-for-11 from the field overall and 7-for-9 at the foul line Monday, increased his Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference leading steal total this season to 34.
Additionally, Goings seven steals against the Bobcats were the most by a PSAC athlete this season as well as being tied for the fifth-highest single-game total in program history.
(Kennedy Catholic High) tallied his first double-double of the year by way of a 14-point, 10-rebound effort that also included four assists, three steals and one block.
OMeech Wilson nearly joined Austin with a double-double after finishing with nine points, 12 rebounds and three blocks.
Austin and Wilson combined for 11 offensive rebounds five more than the entire West Virginia Wesleyan roster.
(Kennedy Catholic High) rounded out SRUs leading scorers with 12 points, accompanied by five rebounds, two steals and one block.
Slippery Rock overcame an off-shooting night of 34.4 percent (22-of-64) overall and 24 percent (6-of-25) from 3-point range by controlling the paint forcing the Bobcats into a plethora of mistakes.
For the game, The Rock held a +20 rebounding margin (47-27) over West Virginia Wesleyan in addition to forcing WVWC into 23 turnovers.
SRU scored 20 points off the Bobcats miscues in addition to turning its season-high 23 offensive rebounds into 16 second chance points.
SRU also assisted on 16 of its 22 successful field goals.
Slippery Rock continued what has been a strong season at the foul line by way of a 20-for-25 (.800) collective showing Monday.
While the Bobcats stayed in the game thanks to their 3-point shooting in which they converted 13-of-23 shots from distance, West Virginia Wesleyan made only six of its 24 two-point field goal attempts thanks in no small part to nine Slippery Rock blocks.
After trailing for the majority of the first half, Slippery Rock closed the opening 20 minutes on an 11-7 run to take a 37-33 edge into the halftime break.
West Virginia Wesleyan kept the game close for much of the second half, but could never re-take the lead.
The turning point of the night came with SRU leading 47-45 and 11:35 to play in regulation as The Rock accounted for 12 of the following 17 points over the next four minutes to stretch their lead out to 59-50.
Wilson was responsible for five points over the decisive run.
SRU largely controlled the remainder of the game, pushing its lead out to double-digits for the final three minutes and finished by a Howes layup with 1:09 remaining in regulation to seal what turned out to be The Rocks largest victory of the season.
Michael Batchelor (21), Alex Mirhosseini (20) and Curtis Litton (12) scored 53 of West Virginia Wesleyans 56 points.
Slippery Rock returns to the road and PSAC competition with back-to-back crossover games 5 p.m.
Friday at Kutztown and 3 p.m.
