College basketball roundup: Warriors can’t catch up to Vikings

WILLMAR A 16-point deficit was too much to overcome for the Ridgewater mens basketball team on Monday evening.

Bethany Lutheran College JV handed the host Warriors a 125-116 loss, with five of its six players scoring at least 15 points.

Ridgewater now has a two-game losing streak, despite averaging 103.1 points per game.

The Warriors are 4-3.

Will Walter and Kaden Butler were key in the Vikings victory, which saw Bethany Lutheran College JV take a 67-51 halftime lead.

Walter scored a team-best 32 points, including a game-high 19 in the first half.

The 6-foot-5 freshman guard from Sleepy Eye shot 11 of 21 from the field and converted on 4 of 6 free throws.

He added four rebounds and a pair of assists.

Butler also made 11 baskets on 20 shots, making 3 of 6 free throws for 29 total points.

The 6-4 freshman guard from Hutchinson piled on seven assists, four rebounds and three steals.

Gavin Gross tacked on 24 points for the Vikings, who got 19 points and 13 assists from Brevin Stoa.

Gross is a 6-1 freshman guard from Foley and Stoa is a 6-2 freshman guard from Hawley.

Tyrese Mayo had the highest scoring game in his Warriors career.

The 5-11 guard knocked down a game-best 39 points on 16 of 23 shooting from the field and 4 of 4 free throws.

The freshman from Winter Haven, Florida, had seven rebounds and four assists.

He is averaging 21.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game this season.

DeAndre Holloway secured his fifth game of the season with at least 20 points.

The 6-7 forward finished with 23 points with 15 rebounds and five blocks.

The freshman from Kerkhoven has recorded a double-double in five games and has reached five blocks in three games.

Ridgewater plays Minnesota North College-Rainy River at 7 p.m.

Friday in International Falls.

Mens Bethany Lutheran JV 125, Ridgewater 116 Womens Bethany Lutheran JV 66, Ridgewater 58 Bethany Lutheran College JV pulled away from Ridgewater in the fourth quarter to earn a victory at Willmar.

The Vikings had four players reach double figures, led by Sydney Hoffman.

The 5-foot-5 freshman guard dropped 17 points with four assists, two rebounds and one steal.

Sheridan Kennedy posted a double-double for Bethany Lutheran College JV.

The 5-10 forward racked up 12 points and 11 rebounds with a game-high six assists and three blocks.

The Warriors also had four in the double figures, led by a 16-point night from Kaydence Bertram.

The 5-10 freshman forward from Melrose also grabbed 11 rebounds.

Ridgewater (0-8) hosts Northland Community and Technical College at 5:30 p.m.
