PALMDALE The Knight flag football team finished the first week of Golden League play at 2-0 after a 42-0 victory over visiting Eastside on Thursday at Knight High.

The Hawks (9-1, 2-0) broke their own school record for points scored, which was set on Tuesday at 41.

Really good game, Knight coach Ryan Tarnoff said.

Im proud of the girls.

The Hawks had more opportunities to score, but a couple of drives stalled out on the 1- or 2-yard line, Tarnoff said.

Knight quarterback Desiree Ahumada completed 20 of 28 passes for 249 yards and five touchdowns.

She has thrown 10 touchdown passes with no interceptions in the first two league games.

Des is playing on another level, Tarnoff said.

Des made some really good reads today.

Jaylene Aguilar rushed for 76 yards and one touchdown on eight carries for the Hawks, while Jaylyn Portee had seven catches for 124 yards and two touchdowns, Liliana Ahumada had two touchdown receptions for 26 yards and Zaria Anderson caught six passes for 73 yards and a touchdown.

Anderson also caught one of Knights three interceptions and added two pass breakups, while Brianna Merrick also had an interception and April Carrillo led the team with four tackles and added an interception and a pass breakup.

Defense is playing with a different kind of energy, Tarnoff said.

I dont think Eastside dropped a ball today.

It was just lockdown defense.

The Hawks play at Palmdale on Tuesday before playing Antelope Valley at home on Wednesday.

2-0 is great, but we have a gauntlet that is coming up in the next few games, Tarnoff said.

We know that were nowhere close where we need to be.
