By Conor Roche David Ortiz shared his recruiting efforts for Juan Soto to sign with the Red Sox: As Boston pursues the top player on the open market this offseason, one of his favorite players growing up is in his ear.

David Ortiz has made his pitch for Soto to follow in his footsteps with the Red Sox, and he feels bullish about the teams chances to sign the All-Star slugger.

I see him with the Red Sox and Im telling you the truth, Ortiz said in an interview with EL VOCERO , translated from Spanish to English.

I see him there unless something different happens because right now everyone wants him, but even Im doing my due diligence because I would like to have that horse on my team.

Soto is a phenomenon that everyone wants because hes a full package, and whoever signs him for the next 12 years will have a couple of championships guaranteed.

The Red Sox met with Soto in Southern California on Nov.

14, reportedly impressing him in a three-hour meeting that was described as productive.

Boston also had a strong contingent from its team present for the meeting with Soto and his agent, Scott Boras.

Ortiz wasnt a part of that contingent, but Red Sox manager Alex Cora was.

Ortiz pointed to Cora, who he was teammates with for four seasons in Boston, as a potential key factor in the Red Sox chances to sign Soto.

Soto is a unique guy and that guy at such a young age is at another level and the organization he goes to will have an immediate impact, Ortiz said.

In Boston, he will have the best manager in the Major Leagues, who is Alex Cora, in my opinion.

Cora is a guy who has a unique chemistry with his players, and I would like to go back 15 years to play for Alex Cora.

Any player who cannot play for him will not be able to play for anyone because he is a brilliant guy, and anyone who does not learn from him has no common sense.

Cora has helped to steer the Red Sox to success over his six seasons managing the squad, winning the World Series in 2018 and reaching the ALCS in 2021.

The trip to the ALCS in 2021 came after Cora served a year-long suspension due to his role in the Astros sign-stealing scandal in 2017.

Of course, the Red Sox havent made the postseason in the last three years, either.

After an 81-81 year in 2024, signing Soto would go a long way toward ending the teams recent playoff drought.

The 26-year-old has been well-regarded as one of the top hitters in the game for several years, hitting .288 with 41 homers and a .989 OPS with the Yankees last season.

Even though Soto enjoyed great success in his first season in New York, Boston could have an advantage over its rival in the pursuit of Soto.

The four-time All-Star, whos also a native of the Dominican Republic, has previously shared that he grew up a fan of the Red Sox, partly due to players like Ortiz.

Ortiz and Soto actually each have a residency in the same building, he recently told WEEIs Rob Bradford .

In the same interview, Ortiz also shared that he spoke with Sotos mother and brother the night before Soto met with the Red Sox.

pic.twitter.com/cIyAhdRbJS Regardless of where Soto ends up, Ortiz believes hell be a franchise-changing player.

But hes hoping that its in Boston.

Many people dont know the impact of a player of his caliber.

Soto changed the Yankees this year, Ortiz said.

The difference between the Yankees this year and last year was Soto, without a doubt.

He brings the chemistry, he has presence, discipline, his education is incredible with a solid foundation thanks to his parents.

The Yankees have not had a Latino player with Sotos profile in the history of their organization, and the only player who most resembles his profile is Carlos Beltran.

You always want to have those types of players on your team, and I see that in Boston.

That changed in the second half, with snow quickly falling at Huntington Bank Field.

The snowfall provided a picturesque scene that many enjoyed.

It also opened up the scoring, with Jameis Winston rushing for a touchdown that looked even tougher than usual with the snow falling.

That seemed to be the case for Hornets star LaMelo Ball on one shot in the third quarter against the Pistons.

As the shot clock was running down, Ball lost control of the dribble while a teammate was trying to set a screen.

Ball eventually got the ball back near midcourt with three seconds left on the shot clock.

Ball prepared to get a shot off, but was slipping as he pulled up from the logo.

Even though Pistons guard Wendell Moore played defense on Ball, it didnt matter as the shot went in to give the Hornets a 20-point lead at the time.

On this day Twelve years ago on Friday, former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez committed one of the biggest blunders in NFL history.

In the second quarter of the Thanksgiving matchup between the Patriots and Jets, Sanchez and running back Shonn Greene had a miscommunication.

The Jets quarterback attempted a handoff, but Greene ran right past him.

So, Sanchez tucked the ball and ran.

His scramble ended at the line of scrimmage, sliding right into the behind of Jets right guard Brandon Moore.

The impact with Moores rear end caused Sanchez to fumble the ball, which Patriots safety Steve Gregory scooped up and ran to the endzone for a 32-yard touchdown.

Seven years ago today, the butt fumble was born.

pic.twitter.com/AQcBBjgztP The play instantly became known as the Butt Fumble and is viewed as one of the biggest bloopers in NFL history.

But that was just one of the handful of errors the Jets made in the second quarter of that game.

Prior to the touchdown, Greene committed a fumble in the redzone to give the Patriots the ball back.

On the next play, Shane Vereen scored on a wheel route for an 85-yard touchdown reception.

On the play after the Butt Fumble, Jets returner Joe McKnight fumbled the ball when he was hit by Devin McCourty.

The ball went straight to Julian Edelman, who returned the loose ball for a touchdown.

That touchdown was actually the third the Patriots scored in 52 seconds and wound up being their fourth of five touchdowns in the second quarter.

The Pats took a 35-3 lead into halftime and ultimately won, 49-19.
