ASK IRA: Was too much expected when it comes to Bam Adebayo’s scoring for the Heat?

Q: Ira, were we mistaken in believing that Bam Adebayo would take over the Heat offense? Man, its been shaky so far.

Fred.

A: Im not sure where such expectation came from, considering Bam Adebayos limited scoring repertoire and outsized other responsibilities.

Like the previous two seasons, Bam stands at the moment where he has stood during those seasons, as the teams No.

3 scorer.

Granted, the numbers are down amid this early sample size.

But if there was thought of Bam playing as a leading man on offense, or even as a definitive No.

2, that seemingly was a reach from the outset.

Rare are the games when Bam demands the ball, and limited are the nights when the size matchup in the middle is in his favor.

By his nature and skill set, Bam will always be a better defender than scorer.

By his set of responsibilities, he also has been asked to play as a facilitator on a roster that again lacks a true point guard.

Bam on a nightly basis fills ample boxes on a winning checklist.

But as offensive leading man? That would seem to be a stretch.

But what if we gave one of them a real contract? Then we could develop more players.

David.

A: So far, the Heat seem well positioned with a pair of two-way players developing in the G League, in Keshad Johnson and Josh Christopher, and one who on Monday showed he can contribute on the NBA level, in Dru Smith.

Now, if one of those three outplays his two-way contract to the degree that the Heat would want to create playoff eligibility, then a move certainly could come down the road.

Beyond that, if the Heat come to believe that Isaiah Stevens is a keeper, then a commensurate move would have to be made.

In that case, being able to move a veteran contract, perhaps such as Thomas Bryant, could open such a door.

Q: Play Pelle Larsson right now.

Larsson is a better defensive option for the Heat.

Its funny that a coach who emphasizes defense, allows Duncan Robinson 22 minutes of no defense.

Make it make sense.

Scooter.

A: Duncan Robinson already has a definitive, proven NBA skill, with his shooting, even Mondays struggle notwithstanding.

When Pelle Larsson develops any such definitive NBA skill set, he too would play.

For now, he is still growing his NBA game toward such a landing spot..
