Netflix warned they can’t ‘botch NFL broadcast under any circumstances’ after Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson nightmare

FORMER star linebacker Shawne Merriman has warned Netflix not to "botch" their upcoming broadcast of the NFL.

Netflix will broadcast two NFL games live on Christmas Day this year in a new twist on the festive fixtures.

The streaming giants will show Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs ' visit to the Pittsburgh Steelers .

And that game will be followed on the holiday by the Baltimore Ravens against the Houston Texans .

But as exciting as some new coverage is, retired NFL star Merriman is concerned about the coverage following Jake Paul's fight with Mike Tyson last week.

Netflix were the exclusive broadcasters of the much-anticipated bout, but saw their coverage riddled with issues .

While there was also a huge number of complaints about an outage during Friday's fight .

Now Merriman has warned that Netflix can't afford to make the same mistakes "under any circumstances" on Christmas day.

Speaking to Fox News Sports, the three-time Pro-Bowler said: "They can get away with what happened with the Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fight.

That shield, the look, the graphics packages, their transitioning from in and out of spots is pristine.

You cannot, under no circumstances, botch an NFL broadcast.

And they have to work out all those kinks now and get the right crew there, because the NFL is not going to tolerate that.

The NFLs brand is too big, and one thing about the NFL, what we know and love is the production quality is at the highest standards you can get.

Netflix have agreed a three-year deal worth $75m to show the programming on the national holiday.

Fans already voiced their concerns on social media during the Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson event, panicking that the NFL coverage could also be sub-standard.

"This Netflix buffering is a big problem," one said.

"I'm sure the NFL is taking detailed notes." Another fan commented, "Netflix is so unprepared to handle this Tyson Paul fight.

"The buffering and freezing is awful - its almost unwatchable.
