Hampton Named Finalist For Doak Walker Award

CHAPEL HILL For the second straight year, North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton has been named a finalist for the Doak Walker National Collegiate Running Back Award, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced on Tuesday.

Voting to determine the winner will begin today and conclude on Sunday, December 8 with the unveiling live on ESPN during The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 12.

The formal presentation of the award will take place at the annual banquet scheduled for Jan.

31, 2025.

Hampton leads the ACC and ranks third in the nation, averaging 134.1 rushing yards per game.

With 1,475 rushing yards on the season, he needs just 25 yards this weekend to become just the fourth ACC player over the past 20 seasons with back-to-back 1,500-yard rushing seasons.

The junior has rushed for over 100 yards in nine of 11 games in 2024, including doing so in eight consecutive contests, a Carolina record.

Hampton has rushed for 14 touchdowns this season and has increased his career total to 35, which ranks third in UNC history.

Doak Walker Award The Doak Walker Award presented by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum has been awarded to the nation's top running back since 1990.

The Doak Walker Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association.

Founded in 1997, the NCFAA includes collegefootball's most prestigious awards and its 24 awards have honored more than 900 recipients dating back to 1935.
