For the second year in a row, Seabreeze Girls coach Eli Freidas took home the Five Star Conference Soccer Tournament trophy in the passenger seat of his SUV.
The Sand Clubs shut out Spruce Creek 5-0 in the conference finale on Thursday, January 12th.
“When I came here last year, my goal was to be the best team in the region, but now that we’ve won the championship two years in a row, we’re pretty dominant in that regard,” he said. “It’s pretty exciting.”
At the start of the game, Freidus was interested in Spruce Creek’s game plan. Coach Rudy Rodriguez put an extra defender in play, squeezing the Seabreeze’s top scorers and their ability to open.

Senior Megan Edwards, also known as “Tiny Tornado”, came out on the field in the final minutes of the game. Chesley tried to set up Edwards to score the goal. They’ve been friends with him for about five years, but they’ve become very close over the last two years. This is Edwards’ first year with the national team.
“The joy after scoring the goal against Deltona was unforgettable,” Chesley said. “I wanted to give her the joy and chance again. I was telling Megan to stand in the penalty spot so I could give her the ball and hopefully she could score. I told her that I need to use the “Tiny Tornado” skill to get the ball into the back of the net.
“I think it felt different, but it’s not perfect for me. I just want to leave a legacy for the Sand Club.”
Briana Chesley
This will be Chesley’s final year with the Sandcrabs before playing next season at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. His second five-star championship was bittersweet for seniors who felt this year was more for the team than for themselves.
“I think it felt different, but it wasn’t complete for me,” she said. , I just want to leave this team and school.I want the sand club to leave a legacy.”
Improving to 10-6, the Seabreeze ends the regular season against two tough teams. They will host Tokoyhis clique on Friday, January 20, with him scheduled to face the nationally ranked Montverde Academy on Tuesday, January 17th.
“We’re building confidence going into the district and postseason,” Friedus said. “My goal last year was to be the best team in the region. They lost very close to Pontevedra in 2016. They deserve a little more progress in the tournament.”
