The battle for dominance in MCAL football is still on the horizon – Marin Independent Journal

Novato and Redwood High’s men’s football teams met on Saturday for first place. Nothing was decided after 80 minutes as the teams fought in a 2–2 stalemate. Osvaldo Real scored both goals for the Hornets (4-1-2, 4-1-2).

The Giants quickly got ahead with a two-minute penalty that was won by Thomas Griffin and scored by Owen Swenson. Evan White scored his second, with Novato equalizing him 2–2 with about 15 minutes remaining.

“It’s a very tough game,” Redwoods manager Will Finney said in a text message. “Novato are well organized, well coached and have talent up and down the field. They certainly won’t go away anytime soon.”

The Redwoods (5-2-2, 4-1-1) beat MC 3-0 on Friday night with goals from Jack Middleton, Thomas Griffin and Encio Sardans.

• Liam Hadden scored a hat-trick to help Terra Linda win 5-0 against Marin Catholic on Saturday (2-8-2, 1-6-0). Kléber Maldonado scored his two other goals for the Trojans (4-0-1, 4-0-1) and assisted his one of Hadden’s goals. Rafa Gonzalez has two assists and Chris Maldonado has one. TL is one point down from first place with 13 points, but still has a game left.

• Goals from Anton della Valle and Luca Genovese gave Archie Williams his first victory of the season. Against Sun Marin he won 2-1 (2-5-2, 0-5-2). Cole Sullivan added an assist for the Peregrine Falcons (1-4-2, 1-4-1).

• Five Bulldogs found the net as San Rafael beat Branson 5-0 on Saturday (2-6-3, 1-4-2). Juan Hernandez, who has scored or assisted in every game he has played, scored within 15 minutes to put San Rafael (4-1-4, 4-1-2) ahead 1-0. Did. Norman Telles scored as the Bulldogs finished the first half with his 2-0 lead. Daniel Rodas, Benjamin Rodas and Jordy Neville scored goals in the second half. Daniel Rodas scored his 1 goal and Kevin DeLeon recorded his 2 assists.

• Malcolm Zalayet scored the opening goal as Marine Academy (3-1-1) beat Tam (5-2-1) 3-0. Women’s soccer

Maya Greenholz scored two goals and set up another as the Redwoods beat Novato 5-0 on Saturday. Greenholz played a role in each of his three goals in the first, with Colette Boyden and Dakota scoring his first and his third goals respectively with his Ledesma assists. Greenholz assisted Ruby Charton on the second goal. Charlotte Lacey and Caroline O’Donnell kept the scoring down with assists from Ledesma and Muddy Buck respectively. Redwood (6-1-2, 4-0-2) topped Tam and he finished second as a result.

• Ally Hsieh scored two goals in the first half to give Branson a 4-0 victory over San Rafael (0-10-0, 0-7-0). Sophia Durán extended his lead to 3-0 and Sophie Arnal capped his first-place Brunson (10-0-1, 6-0-1) scoring in the 76th minute. Gaby Steele assisted on both goals in the second half.

• Goals from Emmy Bergen and Zora Thurston as Archie Williams gave Sun Marin a 2-0 victory (2-4-1. 2-4-1). Belen Hitchcock completed the shutout with goals for the Peregrine Falcons (5-2-1, 4-2-1). Phoebe Morph provided the assist for Thurston’s goal.

• Montgomery won 3-1 on Saturday in wind and rain after Mullen Jones’ goal gave Tam (5-2-1) a lead at halftime.

• Marin Catholic (5-2-2, 4-2-1) defeated Terra Linda (2-4-1, 1-4-1) 2-0. Ava Korich and Lea Gorman scored, Korich got her free kick and Gorman was assisted by her Alina Franchetti.

A long 3-pointer at the buzzer by senior Gytis Gervickas gave San Domenico a 56-55 win against Urban on Saturday.

The Panthers (14-2, BCL West 1-0) had an 11-point lead, with the Urban Knights coming back into the game with a strong second-half play to take the lead with two free throws at 3.6. Seconds remaining. San Domenico senior point guard Matas Brinskas took the ball out of bounds and found Gervicas running up the sideline. Gervickas fired his 28-foot shot at his two defenders on the wire.

• Caden Maas led the Wildcats with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists as the Marin Catholics beat San Rafael 38-35 on Saturday. Ben Blackman had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists as a substitute, JR Bosh had 8 points and Jake Ryan had 5 points and 6 offensive rebounds.

Gio Brovelli and Luke Shapiro led the Bulldogs with 12 points each.

women’s basketball

In a matchup between MCAL’s two top teams, Sun Marin defeated Branson 63-44, with Serena Ruano and Keely Wright leading the Mustangs with 11 points each. Kate O’Hara gave the Sun Marin his 10 points (12-4, 5-1) and in the first quarter he led 18-9 and held off the Bulls for the rest of the game.

Hannah Golan led the Bulls with 14 points (6-8, 3-2) and Avery Meyerberg had 12 points.

• Cecily Hudd scored 12 and Glacin Rabte scored 10 in a 49-26 win over San Rafael on Saturday. Izzie McFadden and Cecily Dayton each gave the Wildcats a seven-point lead behind him (10-4, 5-0).

women’s basketball

Aulani Leomiti scored a team-high 12 points and Victoria Claros added 11 points to lead the College of Marine in a 56-49 win over Bay Valley Conference foes Los Medanos on Saturday. Cary Armstrong had his 13 rebounds with the Mariners (11-6, 3-2).
