The New York Yankees continue to give Anthony Volpe starts despite the shortstop's shortcomings at both sides of the plate.
Despite the criticism all around, Volpe seems to have the team's support and that could be an issue for the organization in the long run.
Recently, Yankees legend Derek Jeter appeared on Adam Schein's "The Schein Time" and shared Volpe's image within the organization.
"The Yankees are very high on Anthony," Jeter said.
"I don't personally know him that well.
We've had a couple of conversations.
I don't know him well, but yeah, I think they're banking on a big upside and hopefully he can put it together here.
They can put it together soon." Before Schein could get on with his full-blown rant, he made it clear that Jeter shares no personal relationship with Volpe other than having conversations with the fellow shortstop a few times.
The analyst believes that Jeter doesn't believe Volpe should be in the majors.
"A guy like that should not be in the major leagues.
That's the interpretation of what Derek Jeter is telling me," Schein said.
The analyst claims Volpe is no good in any of the departments, including hitting, fielding, baserunning and other fundamentals.
The Yankees' shortstop's stats support the argument.
Over the last four years, he has been able to hit only .224 with an OPS of .662.
It's below league-average production for an everyday player.
Schein also thinks that the only reason Volpe has the confidence of the team is that GM Brian Cashman picked him in the first round of the 2019 MLB draft.
To rationalize his decision, Cashman & Co.
are putting Volpe on a high pedestal.
"Brian Cashman is trying to save face and rationalize taking Volpe as high as he did in the draft and saying dumb things in the past like, 'We'll let it play out on the field, and I believe in this guy,'" Schein added.
"No.
Volpe is everything wrong with the New York Yankees, and that's a problem.
So I think it's incumbent upon the Yankees to get rid of him so they can move on." He has no relationship with him? Hey Anthony, you wanna pick up the phone and call Derek Jeter? Hed return the call.

This could be a way for the Yankees to get rid of Anthony Volpe.
TJ French of Heavy floated a proposal in which the Yankees would send the shortstop to the Braves in exchange for INF Jim Jarvis and RHP Garrett Baumann.
With Jose Caballero proving to be an upgrade over Volpe at shortstop, the Yankees may go ahead with the trade by trying to bargain for more draft/prospects capital.
Volpe has done little favor to himself at the plate.
Aside from his defensive struggles, he has not been able to generate any momentum at the plate, only hitting .246 with one home run, six doubles, and an OPS+ of 89 over 138 at-bats this season.
