The New York Yankees could use an upgrade on the left side of their infield.
At shortstop, Anthony Volpe and Jose Caballero have been splitting time at the middle infield position.
Neither has stood out above the other.
With Volpe's long-term fit with the Yankees in question, it may be best for the organization to trade for a starting-caliber shortstop.
In doing so, it may require the Yankees to part with their top prospect, George Lombard Jr., and a few other prospects.
On Tuesday, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter proposed the following trade for Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto.

He won't turn 25 until January and reaches free agency at the conclusion of the 2029 season.
He grades out well defensively but does tend to strike out.
Neto's 146 punchouts lead the American League in 2026.
What this proposal comes down to is whether the Yankees are willing to part with Lombard.
Do they feel the established Neto is the better answer for the future? Or would they rather keep Lombard, find a new shortstop during the offseason, and move Lombard to second or third base?
