Yankees Make 19 Roster Moves, Headlined by Marco Luciano's 40-Man Addition

The New York Yankees kicked off the 2026 offseason with a significant wave of administrative transactions, revealing 19 roster moves on November 2. The majority of these moves involved minor-league affiliates reinstating players from injured lists and settling player statuses following the conclusion of the postseason.

Most of the activity saw players returned to active rosters throughout the farm system. At High-A Hudson Valley, the Renegades activated catcher Josue Gonzalez, right-hander Ocean Gabonia, and outfielders Tyler Wilson and Wilson Rodriguez from various injured lists. After being activated from the full-season list, Gabonia ultimately chose free agency.

At Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the RailRiders reinstated right-hander Luis Garcia, outfielder Garrett Martin, left-hander Will Brian, and right-hander Brian Hendry. The Double-A Somerset Patriots activated third baseman Duncan Pastore, left-hander Brock Selvidge, and right-hander Ben Hess. Meanwhile, the Low-A Tampa Tarpons restored outfielder Richie Bonomolo Jr., first baseman Austin Green, right-hander Mac Heuer, outfielder JoJo Jackson, and right-hander Thatcher Hurd. In a separate move, left-hander Pedro Rodriguez elected free agency.

One transaction stood out from the routine activations: the Yankees selected the contract of shortstop Marco Luciano from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, adding him to the 40-man roster. Luciano, who had appeared in spring training earlier in the year, now holds organizational protection as the team heads into free agency and trade discussions.

These housekeeping decisions came on the heels of a competitive but ultimately disappointing 2026 campaign. New York finished 93-68, capturing the top American League wild-card spot and posting the second-best record in the league. The Yankees ended four and a half games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East. In the postseason, they swept the Boston Red Sox in two games in the wild-card round but were then swept by the Rays in three games in the Division Series.

Key Analysis

With the World Series now concluded, the organization has fully transitioned into winter mode, beginning the evaluation of which returning and newly protected players fit into the 2027 plans while free agents and potential external additions remain under consideration. The high volume of injured-list clearances points to a healthy group of depth options ready for spring training evaluations, even as the front office weighs larger roster construction decisions.
