Yankees' Aaron Judge shares concerning update about injury recovery

Fans of the New York Yankees were hoping that slugger and team captain Aaron Judge would have good news to share regarding his injury recovery following the MLB All-Star break.

While the stress fracture of the first rib on his right side is improving, Judge confirmed on Friday that he is not yet able to resume baseball activities.

"We're still waiting on one more doctor to take a look at it," Judge said about the latest re-imaging of the injury, per Phillip Martinez of SNY.

"Kind of see how we progress forward the next couple weeks, but its definitely a positive sign." It was suggested earlier this week that Judge could return to the big-league lineup by the middle or third week of August.

The "next couple weeks" line could lead one to believe that September remains "the most realistic target date" for when the Bronx Bombers will get Judge back.

"I think it's more of once we see it kind of healing all the way through, I think part of it's healing, the other part of it's still trying to bridge together," Judge said about when he may resume baseball activities.

"So I think that's what we're trying to wait and see if we can kind of get some confirmation of what we can start doing.

I'm going to wait for the doctors to tell us what to do and what they see when they look at it, but I think it's some positive news." The Yankees improved to 36-23 on the same day that Judge took his last in-game swing.

New York held a 54-42 record heading into Friday night's home series opener versus the Los Angeles Dodgers (61-36).

Back in June, Yankees manager Aaron Boone insisted he was "very confident" Judge would play again before the regular season came to an end.

On Friday, Judge addressed that very topic.

"I don't see why not," Judge said.

That isn't the guarantee Yankees fans were likely hoping to hear from the three-time American League Most Valuable Player at the start of the weekend.
