Wisconsin Badgers Rank Third in National TV Viewership Through Early 2026 Season

The fourth season under head coach Luke Fickell at Wisconsin has attracted significant national attention in the early weeks of the 2026 college football campaign. With Fickell facing pressure after three consecutive years of declining results, this season was widely viewed as a pivotal one for the Badgers. Thus far, the team has delivered a 4-1 record, including a 2-0 start in Big Ten conference play, heading into its bye week.

Apart from a second-half collapse against now-No. 3 Notre Dame, Wisconsin has appeared to be a markedly improved squad nearly halfway through the 2026 schedule. That improved play has translated into substantial television viewership.

According to On3, citing Nielsen data, the Badgers rank as the third most-watched college football team in the nation this season. Only Texas and LSU have drawn larger audiences. Among Big Ten programs, Wisconsin leads the way in viewership, surpassing prominent national brands such as Ohio State and Michigan.

The Badgers, Buckeyes, and Wolverines are the only Big Ten teams in the top 10 of the viewership list, with the remaining schools all coming from the SEC. Wisconsin's 7.421 million viewers place it third nationally. For context, Texas tops the list with 9.038 million viewers, while Ohio State, immediately behind Wisconsin, has 6.720 million.

Wisconsin also participated in the sixth most-watched game of the season: its opener against Notre Dame at Lambeau Field, which attracted over 7.4 million viewers. That figure does not include the additional 683,000 viewers who streamed the game on Peacock.

Key Analysis

Whether Wisconsin can maintain its high viewership numbers will depend largely on how the rest of its schedule unfolds. The Badgers will naturally drop in the post-Week 5 rankings due to their bye week, but several upcoming games could generate national interest. In Week 7, Wisconsin travels to face UCLA, which plays Oregon in Eugene this weekend. If the Bruins win and remain undefeated, they would likely be ranked in the top 15, making a matchup with an upstart Badgers team appealing to a broad audience.

The following two games, against USC and at Iowa, also have the potential to be ratings draws, especially if Wisconsin continues winning and stays relevant in the national conversation. Looking further ahead, if the Badgers are a one- or two-loss team when they host Minnesota for the Axe Game on Black Friday, that contest could also attract significant viewership. Networks and game times for the remainder of the schedule, aside from the Minnesota game set for 6:30 p.m. CT, have yet to be announced.
